I Sound Like A NOOB - ECU Reflash
I've used search and can't find sh*t so new thread. When it comes to ECU reflash....what exactly do you need to interface with your ECU to extract your current data.
To my understanding once the data is extracted, they will then mail/forward this data to the U.S. with a list of your mods, they will alter the data and send it back and then reload that into your ECU.
How the hell do you do this and using what? And why the fuq would this cost $1300???

Quote from UpRev website. These are the guys they supposedly send your ECU data to.
"Our PC based reflash system allowing the user to flash their ECU with customized tuning. Osiris comes in three varieties to fit anyone's need.
Osiris Flash Service - our mail-in service for our customers that wish to send their ECU to us for a one time recalibration
Osiris Standard - Our PC based reflash system allowing the user to flash their ECU with customized tuning provided by UpRev or an UpRev Pro Tuner. Osiris Standard includes Cipher and comes with three eTune updates providing custom tuning for your vehicle.
Osiris Tuner - For the do it yourself types who are familiar and capable of tuning their own vehicles or the enthusiast looking for a better alternative to Stand-Alone ECU and Piggyback systems."

Well you need a special scan tool which is costly, then consider that information changes over multiple hands overseas, then they tune it specifically to your vehincle, so compared to you getting a piggyback tuned its not as exoensive as you think. If your running a pre 98 ecu as well it hasnt been confirmed they can be altered.

I would want a dyno or on the road tune not some generic thing, certainly wouldn't be paying $1300 for it either.

For $1300 you can get a piggy back ecu fitted and tuned with money still in your pocket.

Has it ever even been confirmed that the FTO ECU can be reflashed?

Re: I Sound Like A NOOB - ECU Reflash
Yeah the poms figured out how to do it using Evo Scan & a special cable. But it only worked on the later model ECUs.
As Aza said, for $1300, you could get a piggyback installed & tuned, and still have cash left over for a bag of blow.

Gotta love the priorities of the prez.Bennoz wrote:As Aza said, for $1300, you could get a piggyback installed & tuned, and still have cash left over for a bag of blow.
I'd definitely be wanting a dyno tune on your vehicle rather than a generic tune, as it can be much more refined on the dyno. Not all engines are the same (trust me, see it a LOT with diesel chips on the tritons) and need to be tuned accordingly. Some engines will handle much more abuse than others.
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

Re: I Sound Like A NOOB - ECU Reflash
Sounds like with that money general consensus is piggyback.
But just out of curiousity......this special scan tool mentioned in the posts above.......is that some kind of harness like the MUT-II? Do you think it would plug in to the same port where we get our engine codes from (assuming you haven't earthed the red/white cable)
According to their write up you can use a Win 7 PC/Laptop and USB plug and play.....wtf? Are there some magical car USB ports these days? And I'm not talking the stereo kind

And, forgetting the price for now, reflashing the stock ECU would obviously be much better than running a piggyback?
In theory though if you can supply the cable, shouldn't you only pay "tuning costs" for a reflash, seeing as no parts are purchased?

Here's what evoscan looks like:
I'm sure the guys here "who should be in MIT or sumthin" should be able to crack what that data does. So tempting......if you could hook it up somehow

FTO ecu flashing depends on the year, 1998 or later and the probable answer is yes.

Well, with smartarse comments like those I am hardly likely to hang around am I.
Seems like all the hours I spent decoding FTO roms has been a waste of time.
