How to install the Core Sports wing?

Post by shadowarrior »

So, when I removed the stock wing from the stock boot, it had three screw slots on the left and right while two in the middle where it held the stock wing.

When I tried to place the Core Sports wing, none of it's screw slots aligned with the boot. Also, I think it sat a bit odd...like half way over the boot sides...

I have a cover which sits underneath the wing:

I am guessing it's only purpose is to cover the middle screw slots and give it a more uniform look?

What am I doing wrong? :\

Doesn't look like your doing anything wrong - it sits where it sits and by the look of the lip that overhangs the boot that's where its meant to go.
Just plug up the other holes and drill new ones into the boot??

Yeah I'm fairly sure you need different mounting points.

Best to get a panel shop to do it for you though

Damn! :|
Yeah might get a quote from someone to fit it for me... or pick up the boot from Sahin which the wing was fixed on, and re paint it and fit that on mine.

    This ^^

Also means you dont drill into your boot and will allow you to have a spare if you ever want to swap bac or tinker with the old boot/wing.

So I glued the fiber glass cover (pic below) on top of the boot with Sikaflex 227 black. Any idea how long does it take to cure/dry?
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/1wkihm7xpwkki ... .44.14.jpg

I have made washer nuts and fixed them on the wing and the base (on two sides) which has made the wing really firm. Took me good 45mins to take out the rattling nuts from inside the wing.

Going to grab some thinner and do a touch up paint job for now, till I spray paint the whole boot and wing later.

Edit: Also, was Sikaflex 227 black a good choice to glue that fiberglass cover to the metal boot? Or will water (rain) spoil the adhesive and it will come off in some time?

I pretty much have that stuff holding my whole body kit on to my Celica plus some screws

It's waterproof and sets as hard as rock so you should be fine

my ex core sports wing is held by "C" clips.... 2 on each sides

if you flip to the back of your wing, you'll see 2 notches on each side? that's where the C clips held it in onto your boot'
