Questions about Vinyl Wraps

Post by JaseNZ »

Hey all.

In the week or so I've been here I've been getting some great ideas on ways to improve my FTO.
One thing I came across was Vinyl wrap.

Was wondering if anyone has had this done to their FTO (or other vehicles) and could maybe list any pros and cons (aside from the generic ones that seem to be mentioned on a random google search)

I've seen some users do wraps on their interior panels, but nothing yet (unless I didn't look hard enough) on their exterior.
Considering this as an alternative to respraying.

I'm also considering this, but the best places I can find, that are actually willing to do FTOs I found to be in Wellywood :(

Kermut does vinyl wrapping for FTO AU members... He's located in Melbourne!

I'm also considering this in either a matte black or carbon fiber option. Pricing varies on a huge scale though, but along with price comes quality in many situations...

Does anyone know if vinyl wraps can be used inside too like the dash etc or does it have to be a metalic surface to stick to?

They can be used inside. Some brands may stick better than others.

3M seems to hold up well.

Just make sure you prep clean the surface well.

You can also do CF dipping as well. In the pictures on the following link, you can see door handles, centre console, engine cover and headlights:

I legit did not know you could do that! Looks so much easier for smaller components than vinyl wrapping

Question... If I vinyl wrap my car, would it pass blue slip? (My car hasn't been registered for a while)
