Got Tein coilovers. Any good?

Got them for free off a mate. He just bought an FTO. The original owner took these off the car because he thought they were too hard. So my mate took them for me. How do i tell if they need reconditioning. Its still going to cost $600+ for new seals. Do they really need it? Also anyone know if they are any good? I cant find any info on them from the tein website. They are Type HA SAP-49 96316. Also has DKR36-11746-R DE3A-FR-97A.

I've got the softer NA series, and they cost me $500 (for just the front 2) to be revalved. It aint cheap, Phils cost even more.

Having said that, Im interested in buying a set of these at the momemt if either of you are looking to sell!

FTO had these on it when we bought it about 6 weeks ago.
I new 1 had failed and took them all of to have tested by fulcrom (the TEIN agent in Brisbane)
They told me max of $299 each if they need all parts replaced.
after over a week of waiting and i called them back they told me the service centre sent the report back that morning BS and it was going to cost $2300 to repair them.
something about the shafts were broken Hmmm.
So i checked around and got a complete set of XYZ Racing coil overs including PillowBall tops for $1400
so I rang Fulcrom back and they said thats fine but now I owe them $120 for the test disassemble and quote. 8O :o :(

I was quite prepared to get the work done if they had stood behind their original cost of $299 each But $2300 f#&k that.

Tein are reportedly good shocks but if thats what it costs to repair them I personally won't be going near them.

Just my 2cents worth

If they are good enough for Bennoz, maybe I'll hang on to them.
Atleast until I get them checked out by Fulcrum. Worried if i go in there I'm going to get told they need x, y and z done to them when really it isn't that necessary, just trying to take money off me. If it does end up working out too costly, I'll have to end up giving them back to my mate. I dont think he would appreciate me selling them after he was so generous.

Mine needed new shafts as well as revalving....$900 for front pair....In saying that I wouldn't want any other brand and I would pay it again in the future if required.

Do they still have the coilovers Retsub?
If not, tell them to jam it - if they quoted you a maximum and it falls completely outside of that you shouldnt be charged a dime, completely unethical imo.

Thats a load of horse crap - if it was in writing then youd be able to tell them to fix it for that price and theyd have to wear the cost themselves - id be furious personally. Hell im a little mad right now and theyre not even my coilovers!

Fulcrom should have told you that the quote is going to cost $120, if they didn't inform you of that then you can put in a complaint with Consumer Affairs in your state.

Strangely enough, you can't (unless you find a set on eBay or similar.)

Fulcrum retail price for NA's is over 3 grand... hence they reckon they can get away with that refurb price. If you ask me, it's offensive for some tube steel & a few fluid valves tbh.

Type HA's are what I run on the racecar, very good shocks.

Give them a good clean up, and just test them by putting weight on, test with the damper at different settings, if they feel OK just chuck em on  My set I picked up second hand all rusted and looking like sh*t, cleaned em up, painted em, put em on and they're still going strong 3 years later! Was even lucky enough to pickup a second set as spares a year later :D

That said if I had to pay even $300 per shock to rebuild them I wouldn't, better of buying a new set of Cusco Zero's or similar.

And the current Tein Super Streets (or whatever they are called now) are good shocks, but not as good as the HA's.

TEIN HA coilovers :?: :?: :?:
part # sap 49-96316

Mate I just got my hands on a set of coilovers with that exact part number.
I cant find what car they suit any where on the internet and need to sell them asap so I can refit my skyline with new coilovers before my defected notice ends!
$800 for the set
call any time: 0438959097

There is a guy selling a set on the net saying they suit a subaru or s13
The guy i bought them from said they suit Stagea S15 R33 R34 Tein Coilovers

The individual part numbers read:
DKN81-115380
WGC34-R-98A
(Rear Right)

DKN80-117460-L
WGC34-FL-98A
(Front left)
