Recently noticed that occasionally after leaving work when I roll over the little speedbumbs in the car park that there's a really loud pop noise, sounds very forced like something pivoting under pressure.
There has also been a lot more vibration at high speeds.
Jacked the car up and shook the wheels abit, definitely some noise coming from the front right one only.
Cannot see anything moving or loose at all, and can't determine where the sounds it's coming from.
Tie rod ends seem fine and YES the wheel nuts are fking tight.
I did the drop links when I changed the shocks and springs. They seem to be under a lot of pressure, and have since seen on eBay "lowered fto drop links" and "standard height droppings"
Mines obviously lowered but from memory the drop links were just the standard ones, (didn't think it mattered)
I took a recording in case someone knows straightup what it is ?¿?¿

Because nothing is faster than a p plater in a commodore.....
except maybe a p plater on a unicorn

silverGPX beat me to it, but that is WAYYY too much movement to be acceptable. Drop-links, when not tightened enough, will make a clunking noise rather than a "pop"

Have you replaced the CV's recently? If so, I'd say the castellated nut on the end of the CV hasn't been tightened enough or has come loose, resulting in a rooted wheel bearing. :(

Vid of movement with wheel off.

From the vid you have it looks like a collapsed bearing or loose/worn lower ball joint or loose shock to hub assembly mount or busted shock or busted axle.

Haven't don't cv joints,..ever?


The video was more for the sound rather then to see movement, the front wheels are off the ground so it's moving freely on the steering rack as I shake it.
Because nothing is faster than a p plater in a commodore.....

Regardless, its definitely something loose or collapsed, and careful investigation should reveal the culprit.

You need to determine if the hub assembly has play as well as the wheel, or just the wheel
After that its just elimination as to whats loose.
Perhaps it is a collapsed bearing, only investigation can tell.

Mm thing is I have no idea where to look cos I don't no sh*t about bearings or cv joints because I've never replaced them.

Had abit of a look underneath at the control arm I think it's called??? Could the big rubber bushes have gone in it ? causing noise and movement ?

Does a collapsed bearing mean I have to replace the whole wheel bearing? On just the one side or be a good idea to do both? Is it an easy job to do myself with abit of help off youtube n sh*t?

We need to work out the problem before we can work out a repair.

Ok so this is definitely moving abit , it's hard to see in the vid but it definitely has some movement.

Is it normal? I'm guessing no.
Is it called the control arm?
What needs to be replaced?
I'm not %100 sure that that is where the tapping noise is coming from, but I think that's it.
Is this the cause of the erratic increase in shaking while driving ? And a sorta of under steer occasionally?
Effort job or easy? Just remove it, replace inner bushings?rubbers? What about the other two ends to it, should I be replacing whatever's in them aswell.
Obviously i have no knowledge with this sort of stuff, so all the help I can get is appreciated muchly. Thanks

Front lower control arm bushes, fucked.

Easier to drill them first, then bash them out. They're a tight fit.

Yep.

EDIT: You could leave the arm connected to the hub, just undo the front & rear mounts, just means you'd be trying to press the bush out on your back under the car. Hassle.

How do get this last one off? Is it ment to just drop down? I've tried bashing it out :x won't fukin budge! Is ther some secret locknut in that rubber?
