3.5L TJ Magna engine
Anyone ever figured out if a 3.5L v6 out of a TJ magna would fit into the FTO?
One is in Albany creek for under $500, was just curious more than anything

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
It has been done.
And there's a much better engine package on eBay for the conversion.

Someone should find out how hard it is to dump a Soarer V8 in.

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
Only problem with the TJ magna V6 is the big end's don't like being revved hard. We've found this out by destroying the big-end bearings in 2 motors in the race buggy so far. If you want one to go hard, get an earlier (pre-2000) 6G74 and use that. Alternatively, the 6G75 uses the same block as the 74 with slightly different heads (all internal though, same external sizes), so will also bolt-up using said conversion kit.
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
6A12TT won't fit Taz.
And you forgot the 6G72 DOHC MIVEC which is a good option in my opinion.
Also the 6G75 is a great option. It's fitted into a Lancer Coupe with very slight modifications (exhaust etc) and does an 11 second quarter mile.
There's another Lancer Coupe with a 6G75 with the 6G72 DOHC MIVEC heads on it.
And since engine bays are the same, whatever fits into a Lancer/Mirage fits into an FTO as well

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
You don't need the 72 mivec heads for the 75, the NP/NS/NT pajero has a mivec 6G75 from factoryspetz wrote:6A12TT won't fit Taz.

I would say it'd chuck all power to weight laws out the window, and I know in SA that much of a change is illegalAkys wrote:How bout the law? is it legal from 2000cc to 3500cc?
There are two types of people on forums; those that give helpful advice, and the others

New rules coming in to effect, or even now in effect about upgrading cars.Akys wrote:How bout the law? is it legal from 2000cc to 3500cc?
A bit more flexible, but I still don't think you could chuck a Hyundai excel inside your hood with your current engine and make it legal...

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
it WAS 20% wasnt it (but from a previous argument already had thats confusing. Its 20% counted from the new engine - not the old. This means 2500cc, not 2400cc)
Surely they wont lift that to 75-80% ?

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
New rules don't go based on 20% completely.
There are other rules also now, however given the FTO only ever came out with a 1.8 or 2L, there's no way a 3L or for that matter 3.5 will ever pass as a roadworthy piece.
And yes, it went by CC not Liters.

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
The 6G75 MIVEC is a SOHC MIVEC with economy in mind whereas the 6G72 MIVEC is a DOHC MIVEC with 2 cam profiles. Completely differentfraz91 wrote:You don't need the 72 mivec heads for the 75, the NP/NS/NT pajero has a mivec 6G75 from factoryspetz wrote:6A12TT won't fit Taz.

As for legality, in ACT/NSW it'd be legal so long as it's engineered, not sure about elsewhere in Australia though

I can put a 6G75 in my fto? I always figured that the reason you don't see more was a dimension issue.

Re: 3.5L TJ Magna engine
Yeah 6G75 fits and would make for a very fast FTO.
The reason it's not done is mostly because people who own FTOs generally do not spend a great deal of money on the engine and the ones that do go for an easier approach, of which there are many
