Removing engine subframe

Post by silverGPX »

Hi there,

Was wondering if it was possible to remove the engine bay subframe out of the bottom of the car without taking the engine/gearbox out?

You mean the cross member held on by 4 bolts, and bolts through the lower mounts?
If so.
Yes.

No I mean the entire cradle.

Does it drop out the bottom, the frame the the rear lower control arm bracket is bolted to?

they're bolted to the main chassis underneath.
There is a lot of objects around it, steering rack, etc.

It's possible to remove it without dropping/ removing the engine however.

Come to think, the steering rack on these is bolted to the firewall isnt it?

Ehh, haven't looked for ages, best to wait for someone who knows.

Did you end up dropping the subframe?

You can use these things to hold the engine as the front and rear mounts would have to be taken off to remove the subframe/K frame:

I have to get it for the panelbeater, the car is going to be up in the air about head height.
