EOI: Save my sanity!

Post by FTOwnage »

I'm at my with's end. These tappets are literally making me embarrassed to drive anywhere right now. I have to crank my stereo up to 12 just to drown out that infamous 'tick tick tick'.

I have removed my rocker cover and got a friend to have a crack at adjusting them but he has made some quiet and some louder.

I can't even drive past a skate park without getting weird looks.

My mechanic is a bit 'err mehhh yehhh nahhh' about going anywhere near them.

So I'm asking the community here. I will pay someone (money/beer or a combination of the both), don't care who! Just please make them softer at the very least. I would love to learn if you have the time to teach me too.

I know it is a pain in the neck to do them. I will understand if no hands are raised.

Thanks, Mike

I am the new tappet master of NSW. When do you wanna do them?

Let me guess, Bryce tried his "I can adjust them without the tool method"?

It appeared to work a little to begin with, but they have worsened over 2 weeks. He told me to try some lifter stuff they had on the shelf but that made absolutely no difference

The lifter stuff won't work with our engines. As our tappets are mechanical, not hydraulic.

Umm, I might be free Sunday. If not then it would have to be some time during the week when we're both free or next weekend.

That's right. Got the incident confused with another one. It was one of the spring washers from the intake manifold.

After we had fixed most of the other issues with the car, I told him that to adjust the tappets you need to make/buy a special tool. He was arguing that he could do it and has done it on Magnas without the tool.

So he stripped the engine down and started adjusting the tappets with a 10mm socket and screwdriver BY FEEL, without a feeler gauge. :facepalm2:

He then put it back together and started it up.

I do appreciate his help but it was sorta 2 steps forward 5 steps backward. He helped me fix my misfiring at least haha.

But in all seriousness if you can help me out with this I would be over the moon.

What, by changing a couple of spark plugs?

And yeah man, I am more than happy to help.
