From past experience (mum's cars 
), I'll suggest the following. Won't list the years as they're too varied, but most are mid to late 90's. All are available for under $4K and are cheap/reliable:
Toyota Corolla
Toyota Camry
Mitsubishi Lancer
Honda Civic
Honda Accord
Mazda 626
Toyota Avalon
Mazda Protege' (some creeping to ~5K)
Otherwise, just put your bike on Gumtree for swaps and see what's offered
