Newbie needs some pics and assistance

Post by zaczac »

Hi I don't yet own a FTO but I have a Ferrari Dino replica car that i am considering putting in a v6 mivec engine out of the FTO. The car is set up for a mid engine RWD so I would like to see what the actual gearshift mechanism looks like in an automatic FTO because I need to run to a rear mounted engine not forward.
I absolutely love the sound of an FTO engine and it will suit the Ferrari replica to a T is it originally had a 2 L V6 as well.
Any pics of the gear shift and or auto box linkages will be great thanks

Best person to chat to would be clint111 as he is putting the mivec engine in to a lotus.

Granted its manual with a lot of custom work, but that would be the same direction your heading anyway, he has a build thread in "other cars"

P.s. would love to see some pics of the beast.

Had a look at that thread and appears using the lotus shifter.
I was thinking an MR2 gear shifter would do the trick if I go manual but most appear auto so is the auto a cable type or all electronic?

Yep, cable shift, with electronic for the tip.
So, run a cable, or shifter rod, then simply wire the gearbox and 'paddle' in.

If you wanted to be clever, you could do steering wheel paddles...

You can do that easily with those momo steering wheels, with the horn buttons on each side. in a tip lol if I had an auto i'd do it

harder with airbag.
In the OPs case as it's a kit car he can play a bit more.
There was a kit available for the non-airbag, or atleast, non momo fto steering wheel.

Rather uncommon, and only 1 I know of in Aus.
