This is the exact issue that Nick's FTO had too...
So far in my few belt snaps it hasn't taken the sensor yet..

Hey, so i've had another look at 2 of the wires to the sensor has been severed so i've found the issue Is this fixable? will replacing the sensor fix the issue or has the engine been rooted by running without it.
I ask because I actually got it to run today by resetting the ecu overnight and it ran like sh*t for 10 seconds and turned off, sounded like the head was fucked by Im assuming its because the ecu had no way to time the engine and it was misfiring off its tits..

So next question is who has a spare sensor for sale? Ill provide pictures tomorrow of the exact it, its the sensor right about the main crank pulley/harmonic balancer.

Just did this, got it to start but i think its fucked. it wont idle and sounds fucked, ill get a video tomorrow. The main crank pulley is also either bent or loose cause as it runs its wonky as sh*t, any ideas? also the head sounds like its going nuts.

Your story sounds to me like the engine has done a big end bearing (Slip bearing inbetween crank shaft and conrod), or has dropped a big end off of one or more conrods, or broken a main bearing, or has done all of the above.
This would explain the loosness of the crank shaft and that loosness could have caused your belt to snap.
It would also explain a fucked up top end to.

I reackon your engine is cactus and needs to be replaced.

But I am only diagnosing from info you have provided, in saying that I'm pretty sure I'm correct.

Sorry

Edit: See if you can move the crankshaft to find out if it has excessive movement, up/down and in/out, take the harmonic balancer off and use a lever.
Also turn the engine over by hand and listen to whats going on inside.
Also drain the oil and see if you can find bits of metal or metal shavings, and determine what colour these shavings are.
Then if you find any of the above, take the sump off and have a look at the bottom end, turn the engine over by hand with the sump off and see whats going on.

UPDATE

Ok so i got it to start by repairing the wiring to the sensor as Phil instructed (thanks Phil) and the engine is FU#KED. Completely rooted bottom end.
Anyways im not to fussed i bought the car expecting a dead engine, so now the fun begins. Swap my engine into new shell.

Anyone keen for a DIY at mine? Lockyer Valley location.
