If you have a GPX, different oil won't make much of a difference in tappet noise unless it is the 12 hydraulic MIVEC tappets that are tapping.

Man, if you paid me $900 I would have made sure your car had no tap at all.

Had the FTO a week so i didn't know about this forum ect, and i got completely ass rap*d on price I know. I was like dude its still tapping and he is like its the hydraulic mivec tappets and there's nothing he could do but he was still happy to take all my money, Ass*ole

I called up every mechanic and this guy is the only dude who said he knew how to do it etc and yeah he didn't, didn't even have the right tool and he had to do it with some sh*tty bent spanner and reckon they spent over 10 hours doing it cause it was hard
Dick heads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never paying a shop mechanic (that I don't personally know) EVER EVER AGAIN!, all they do is fu*k you over and rape your wallet, and under quote you so you'll agree to leave it with them only to go back when its supposed to be finished and they tell you their sorta finished but it was harder than they thought and they have to charge double the original price to finish. Its basically random.

So sick of it. From now on if i cant fix and i don't know someone who can it doesn't get fixed.
I'd rather buy a whole new car than pay another sh*tty mechanic another dollar.

(My apologies for the rant, had to get it out there)

100% Agree.

Although there are some things that you have to go to a specialist for. Like getting stuff machined or getting an ECU tuned. Things you can't do by yourself.

Yeah, I mean general shop mechanics, CV places, suspension shops (tyres and wheel alignments aside), brake shops etc.
Specialist are fine because they actually know what they are doing and didn't learn it from their dads in 1920 when cars had 1 horsepower. They actually went to university and or did a specialist trade and know their sh*t.

Not necessarily, just have to find the right place.
I fix cars.

Unfortunately I don't have unlimited funds to keep trying.

Fair point, but you dont need to spend heaps of cash finding a place.

Word of mouth is an excellent way to find good places. Use other people's money to determine if a place is good or not

No offense intended, yours obviously works because it doesn't take you 10 hours to do some tappets.

Its always a sense of fulfillment when you fix things yourself. And its more fun to spend a day or two with your mates trying to fix crap up and mod a car rather than just dropping it to a shop and handing over mahoosive amounts of moneys.

My rule of thumb is if I can't do it myself I will research how to do it until my head hurts and buy/make any necessary tools.

100% Agree, I couldn't care less if i takes me a week when it would take a mechanic a day, id still rather the week and know that I did it.
That's what i love so much about this forum, It give me mountains of info to go by, and its full of extremely helpful and knowledgeable people to help when the FTO doesn't agree with me

I very rarely do car work when Im alone. If I ask lawso to come round for help he usually just vacuums the GR or sleeps inside it and eats all my chocolate coated ice creams
