Make the trailer bigger?

Post by Astron_Boy »

So, should I keep the doors in the FTO Trailer?

Spotted this posted on the Magna forum.

That is just the most confusing thing. It's like, "Hey, we need some more practical space to carry things. Except let's make it low enough that we might leave the trailer behind at a speed bump."

Would be pretty long though. And would it matter that the wheel is further back then?

Yes it, does.
The wheels need to be at a certain point on the trailer for it to be deemed worthy.

By the looks of the shots, they have turned it in to an entertainment area, I can see a TV top, so it's more a mini caravan.

But yeah, good luck on speed bumps.

I'll just leave this here.

Despite knowing next to nothing of trailer creation, I'm assuming it's probably not worth the effort to move the wheel forward, and likely have to cut into the door itself to do so?

 The whole point of the trailer is to have it look like the rear end of an FTO.

I know that, but you don't necessarily need it to have the doors! If Astron wants to put in the extra effort, then good on him.

I was referring to your moving wheels statement.

I was saying moving the wheels isn't a good idea because the whole point is to have it look like the rear end of an FTO. Also would be way too much effort.

That's what I was saying as well. Which is why I made the comment about how far back they'd be.

You want the wheels to be at about the half way point of the center of the trailer.
They will allow a discrepancy, or if the trailer design is purposed with twin axles etc.

But in the above situation, it's like a wheel barrow, all the weight is at your arms, or in the cars case, the tow ball.
You don't want to be putting all the weight on the tow ball, you want it balanced.

Agree with your above post Dan, you need to look at the balance point of the trailer. If the above trailer in the pic was able to be regoed I would love to get the number of the engineer that past it :) . Most RMS inspectors would defect it in a heart beat.
