They'll probably do a better job too.

Although I seem to have gotten quite good at digging lately...

215,235, could go somewhere in between? Though I'm no expert I've got 225s and they seem alright. Still a good improvement over stock, no guard rolling needed either (saw your other thread bjk).

Hey I say the more tread the better, how often do you replace tyres anyway?

There's a set of 18x9 +18 rims near adelaide for $900. Might try to see if I can haggle a bit. Also need to see how cheap I can get the tyres I want here in SA.

The 235 tires would have a higher profile than the 215.
Use some tire size calculators to figure out which is best suited to the original 205/50/16 tires

This is the closest you'll ever get.
You always want to be a bit over than under.

Code: Select all

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
205/50-16 4.0in 12.0in 24.1in 75.6in 838 0.0%
225/40-17 3.5in 12.0in 24.1in 75.7in 837 0.1%
225/35-18 3.1in 12.1in 24.2in 76.0in 833 0.5%
Meanwhile, 225/40-17 isn't much the norm.

EDIT:
To give an idea in comparison to the majority of FTO owners with 17s.

Code: Select all

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
205/50-16 4.0in 12.0in 24.1in 75.6in 838 0.0%
215/45-17 3.8in 12.3in 24.6in 77.3in 819 2.3%
235/45-17 4.2in 12.7in 25.3in 79.6in 796 5.2%

Which is why I'll probably run 235/40. I've found pictures, barely any stretch at all on a 9 inch wide rim, but probably depends on the tyre too.
