GPvR wing centre post delete

Anyone know how to get the centre post of out a version R wing? I have one without it but I didn't remove it myself. Is it as simple as taking off those small screws around the base and fibreglassing over it or does the version R wing not have those like the standard wing does?

Looking at doing the same to a potentially a carbon fibre wing from the group buy.

Undo 4 screws and remove the center post.
Fill in the center with filler.

Having said that, even with the center post that area is a weak spot, so by filling it, it simply shifts the weak spot further along.

Can take a picture if you'd like.

You could add some thin sheet metal then?

Honestly don't think that would solve it.
The plastic simply dries out and then begins splintering.
Probably a wrap in fiberglass would strengthen it...

No worries, thanks Dan. Wasn't sure if the vR wing had those screws or not.

I'm going to take my current one up to a panel shop and see what they think.

You could always put a carbon sock over the wing itself and epoxy it down. Lightweight, looks good AND strengthens the f*ck out of it.

Not a bad idea.

Sounds more expensive than just drilling some sort of reinforcement bar into the wing to me. Where do I acquire said sock?

It's on the pricier side, but will work without too much fuss. ;)

As for acquiring it, have a look around boat chandler's and the like, they've often got heaps as it's used to build masts and other rigging components.

Also: http://www.carbonfiber.com.au/category4_1.htm

A reinforcing bar will be difficult to just "drill" into the wing. Unless you use a router or biscuit cutter to cut into the underside of the wing and place a reinforcing bar in that way, it'll be a right pain in the ass. If you do just cut away the section you're laying the bar into, then you'll have to fibreglass it back together anyway.
