95 FTO Auto
Hey Guys,
My sister bought this FTO recently and its been great but a few issues.
There's an oil leak somewhere, the lifters or tappets are extremely noisy, it has the most annoying exhaust system, the suspension could be slightly softer (I know most people like it stiff), some bad bog work by the previous owner to blend the front facia into the front fenders and lots of rattles inside - especially with medium to loud music cos of the sub.
Anyway here's some pics Can you guys tell me if this is the model that can have the lifters or tappets adjusted or is it better to replace the lifters?
Here you might be able to see the bad bog work. Sorry for the not so good pics.
And what is this terrible exhaust setup? I'm sure there's better options for a great car like this.
Here's a vid of the noisy lifters. Sounds worse than an old diesel.

Re: 95 FTO Auto
mine used to sound like that, I checked my oil and it was extremely low, check and see if the car has its oil topped up, once I changed mine to new oil and the correct level mine went away, but Yours could need adjusting too
I also believe that the tappets are adjustable in the mivec v6, someone will correct me if I'm wrong though

Yeah adjustable tappets, it's MIVEC.
WTTC.
For an ideal exhaust you want a 2.5 inch full setup with a hi-flow cat or something similar.

Re: 95 FTO Auto
I'm next to positive that exhaust is an HKS Superdrager.
In other words, that IS one of the better exhausts.
Toby must have made a trip over to WA, the blend work is familiar, so is the paint match.
As the aboves have said, tappets are adjustable.
Degrease your engine bay to better find the source of said leak.
Take a picture behind your front wheel of the suspension strut, if you have coil-overs you can switch for conventional for a softer ride.
WTF is that extra washer bottle between the battery and firewall?
Original window wiper washer bottle bodge replacement?
EDIT: I dont see any extra guages, so where is the tap from the top radiator hose leading?
EDIT2: Rattles from sub will most likely be your rear parcel shelf.

Nice car orbit mate. Should just swap that bar for a facelift or something. Never liked the VS bar on silver FTO s.
Rear bar it kinda cool, needs twin exhausts to go with it though.
Oh and I've got a couple of exhaust systems if you want get rid of your superdragger
Don't worry about the tappets you'll get used to them

Re: 95 FTO Auto
Thanks for all the info guys, I'll look into adjusting the tappets fairly soon.
Yeah I think there was a different temp gauge or thermo switch by the previous owner but the wires are just coiled up under the passenger carpet, will remove later on.
If the exhaust is a better one, could learn to live with it, it's my sisters car. I only drive it once or twice a week when she's out of town (FIFO). I just don't like the tone of it. Would adding extractors / headers help? Or maybe a resonator and a different tip. It needs a deeper lower tone, way to raspy at the moment IMO.
I need to check that washer bottle thing out too.
How hard is it to acquire manual swap stuff?
Probably a noob question but is there somewhere I can download a FSM?

Re: 95 FTO Auto
Extractors will only improve performance (marginally)
Adding an extra, or larger resonator under the car inline will quiet down the car.
Adding a hot dog will reduce the rasp and add a bit of tone, but will make obvious noises past 3K. (toyed with the exhaust for a while till ours sounds the way it does)
I believe Shane still have ALL the manual swap gear to do the conversion, however, he is NSW based.
Check the FS section. I do believe there is another on eBay (haven't checked recently) but that is in QLD.... If memory serves.

Hi there,
To get a deeper tone get rid of the resonator towards the rear of the system, just before it goes over the axle, and add a longer resonator towards the end of the middle straight section of pipe close to the first bend.
