Fto cold start problem

Hey Guys

I recently had a issue where the car won't start unless i keep my foot on the accelerator for a few minutes to warm it up.
I have replaced the stepper motor.

But now, it won't start first go but starts second go every time.

It turns over but dies the first time and second time it starts up normal.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Don't do this^

What other problems does it have? Could be fuel or electric... When was the fuel filter changed last?

Could it be the timing belt or alternator belt? Hasn't been replaced in about 80000km's

no, that wouldnt effect starting...

either a battery, starter, fuel issue or a pump or injector issue,...

what fuel have u been using? ive had similar problems with BP 98

I've been using 95 mostly, sometimes 98 usually from Caltex.

I get a whining noise as well when it's idle at the lights, sort of a whine then stop whine then stop etc which is constant, been doing that for a few months, seems to go away when i drive though.

to be honest, you've covered the bases with the stepper motor and fuel filter...

best guess is its electrical... either the the fuel pump or the maf sensor (if flooring it to start has anything to do with it)

Seems to happen only in mornings when it's a bit colder when it hasn't been turned on for 10 hours or so.

After work which is 8 hours it starts fine first go though

Still better then it was before, where it wouldn't start without flooring it.

Will try the fuel pump.

sounds like fuel pressure. not enough for first start but once pushed a bit through seems ok FPR maybe on way out

Have you reset the ECU since replacing the stepper motor?

Disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes and reconnect it.
