Max's FTO

I'll start with the photo I posted in the newbie section and update this post when I find the rest of my photo's. :) I've had my pre-facelift 1997 FTO for just over 2.5yrs and bought it for £530 ($915 AUD).

It's had a fair bit spent on it so far and has a lot of parts sitting in the garage waiting to go on.

So far the following has been added in no particular order:
> BC Racing BR Coilovers
> Rear chassis rails cut off and replaced + under sealed for the first time in its life
> Full black leather trim (seats & door cards)
> Refurbed OEM 16" wheels + new center caps and springs
> OEM HID Headlights
> Front fog/indicator/side clusters
> Replaced rear clusters due to crazed plastic
> Clear MX5 repeaters
> Replaced front and rear bumper (no hole in rear)
> Fog light mod for inner two tail lights (these work as 3 function bulbs so you don't lose the OEM look)
> Pipercross Viper carbon induction kit
> Type F carbon auto-box gear knob
> Type F door cups
> Momo Millennium steering wheel
> Ford Mondeo MK1 heater pads for the leather seats (retrofitted)
> Ssangyong Musso door courtesy lights
> Polished and refurbed throttle body for increased response
> Biggest battery you'll get in the car - Varta E38 750A
> Front and rear GPvR strut braces
> Alloy handbrake cover and real leather skirt bit
> Ford Mondeo MK1 boot carpet cut to fit (nice and plush)
> Kenward DAB Radio
> Infinity front and rear speakers
> Chrome interior door handles
> All bulbs replaced with SMD LED's apart from dipped and main beam. Interior bulbs are all white.
> Private plate
> Removed amber indicator filter from clusters

Waiting to go on/be fixed:
> Engine with less than half the mileage (this engine will be fully stripped down and rebuilt with new everything where required). If I can get away with it, I may have it bored out to 2.2L.
> Manual gearbox with all ancillaries
> KMC V3 dials (still looking for clock and voltmeter dials to match the set)
> Ford Mondeo Mk3 leather gearknob (in black)
> Carbon kick plates
> Magnor 8mm HT leads
> Full set of Iridium IX spark plugs
> Roof rust to be cut out and new metal welded in
> Full respray after body prepared (I'll prep it and someone else with do the paint work)
> Lower rear strut brace
> Performance exhaust from manifold to tip (one of the original 3 that were imported from RHD Japan before all the copies started flooding the market)
> Longlife twin outlet exhaust tip
> 2mm Silent Coat (enough to do the entire car)
> 12mm Silent Coat insulation (enough to do the chassis)

I think that's it... But if I remember more, I'll add it. :)

This lot has all be done in the last 3-4 months:
> Leather door cards
> Type F door cups
> Chrome interior door handles
> Courtesy light
> Retrofitted heated seats with controls under door cups. Master switch added as I didn't want to lean across to the passenger side!

Certainly a bit of effort gone in! More pics!

How much have you looked into boring it out?

Not very far. It's just a question waiting to be answered at the moment. If it's too costly, then I'll stick with it. More photos coming. :)

Just over a month of ownership:

> Rear brake lines upgraded to copper
> Brushed stainless slam panel
> Brushed stainless grill (front bumper)
> Brushed stainless dial rings & needle cups
> Custom aluminium induction cone holder
> Custom aluminium battery bracket

Waiting to be fitted:

I've gone through my photos and although I haven't taken anything for a while, apart from the chrome door handles, I think what's below should be enough to keep you guys happy for a while. 8)

Man are those panels straight! Pretty brilliant for the price you paid.

I've spent a couple of grand Sterling on top of the purchase price to get it looking good. :)

Standard dials with white SMD LED bulbs behind them. Dead simple although will be replacing the dials with an incomplete set of KMC V3 dials (no EL!).

I also write guides for the UK club. For example, the ultimate LED upgrade guide or rear fog inner light conversion for under a fiver or my latest guide which is almost complete, alternator refurbishment: the complete guide. :) There are a few other guides lurking around, but these seem to be the ones people view the most.

As one of the event organisers, specifically for the bi-annual Hindhead tunnel run, I put together a little video. Half an hour down the road, we have the longest tunnel in Europe at 1.4 miles!

At either end of the tunnel are average speed camera's and the speed through the tunnel changes when the eyes in the sky spot a group of lunatics making a pass...or five! For this video, my speedo wasn't working, so I had to pace myself against a car that entered at the time as me.

All four cars are GPX models and after our first run, I was told not to be at the front as no one else could hear their roar above mine... A year later and things have changed. :p

Yep, I'll stick the guides here seeing as I'm not a mod and thus can't post in the DIY section. :( They've all got a green rating as dead simple. :)
I won't add the passenger one-touch just yet as haven't been allowed to post it on the FTOOC forum yet as it's supposed to go in to the 2nd edition of the digital magazine. I wrote is almost 2 years ago... :(

Post it up in a seperate thread (new topic) and a mod will move it if it's a good write up ;)

I can add all your guides to complete FTO (www.completefto.com.au) as well if that is acceptable...

FTO is looking very clean BTW.
