Rebuiliding 6A12 from total scratch - Advice

Hey so is it possible to order all OEM (or even aftermarket if adequate enough) parts of the 6A12 and rebuild it from scratch? Essentially it would be a brand spanking new 6A12 with the possibility of port and polishing and forging pistons etc...i'm not looking at doing it immediately, but i'm curious to know whether someone has done it before or know how much the parts and build is (minus the porting etc.)

...Just a fantasy, but imagine a brand new 6A12 with bigger injectors, a shorter stroke distance and port and polished heads and block with strengthened internals to allow for 10k rpm redline. mmm

Camskill UK have got a lot of OEM parts available for the engine and you can prob get the rest via Mitsi Japan.

Sounds like fun.........but do you have any idea how much this is gonna cost you?

There is extremely limited support for FTOs in general. Everything is going to cost you top dollar

Check my build thread. Full rebuild cost me just shy of 5k.

Plus the small hiccup with everyone thinks that by shortening the stroke it will 'just rev to 10 grand'

It aint gonna rev to 10 grand with a cam profile to do it. $1k for the 4 billet sticks, then finding a magical cam grinder who can supposedly create said profile, you're looking at another 2 grand.

Oh & back to that short stroke crank - that doesn't exist either. I'd budget around 3 grand to get one of them whipped up out of a block of steel. Then add all the forged rods & pistons you'll need to cope with all this extra rpm - 3 grand.

By the time you're done, you'll have spend a 6A13 conversion & then some... for less power.

What parts did you swap out Dan?

And Hero, we're not here to discourage you but have a good think about what you're trying to achieve with the engine rebuild.

If you want to rebuild to just replace seals, new head gasket, re-torque, etc. for reliability then it won't cost you an arm and a leg if you do most of the work yourself.

I turned two engines into one. The block from dstocks was better than the block from Shanes and I used the racecar heads because they were already ported.

Honed, linished, heads serviced, etc. about $1500 worth of machine work. Is all listed in my thread.

Then gasket set, all bearings, water pump, timing belt.. all that crap.

Ah okay. this is great info. Well I'm happy to rebuild purely for reliability sakes (plus i like the idea of "starting fresh")

I'm not doing it any time soon anyway since my engine is still relatively low k's (150k) and i've just put in bigger injectors and the lot so a massive ceebs factor kicks in.

Just interesting to know whether it's possible. On the topic of stroke distance and rev limit, out of curiousity what is the highest revving mitsi production car engine out there?

and Daniel, link me to this thread! how is the car going now that it's rebuilt etc??

Is in my signature under my posts.
Don't know, hasn't been started yet, I think my fuel system is playing silly buggers.
