Dealership Mechanic

Post by Daniel2019 »

Hey guys,

Has anyone here ever worked for a bigger company like Mazda, Ford, Mitsu etc. as a mechanic as opposed to a smaller or independent/privately owned place? I have a job interview at Mazda tomorrow but I'm real skeptical about working for a bigger company rather than a smaller place.

As far as I know, everything is tightly scheduled and basically all you do is minor/major servicing. My uncle works for VW and said doing it through a manufacturer isn't the way to go because of this.

Either way I'm getting sweet f**k all $p/h as I will be on minimum apprentice money regardless.

Cheers
I fix cars.

Well yeah I plan on running my own business which is why I think doing it at a private place would be better.

Whether or not I end up with my own place or not is a different story, but thats the goal.

I don't, I love working on the tools.

Daniel...Sometimes working for a larger company has it's rewards.
They are normally safer, training is better and usually set out, supply you with moar stuff...tools, PPE etc, they have rules that everyone has to work by...so you won't get belittled (as much).
After your trade...Dealership mechanics are sort after people too.

I reackon go for it, it would be a great opportunity for you.
