Did you manage to trace it to a source?
Where is your battery located? It could be from your earth from the battery, someone might of changed something or upgraded the cable :?

i checked that cos i changed the old stereo, and it was installed with the stock wirings...
But i've been getting lot of static zaps when i get out of the car..so i wonder if that earthing might have to do with it...

hook up a multimeter to it and see if its an earth for anything! It wont be a postive i dont think, because if it comes in contact with the car body it should create sparks.

I get a lot of zaps as well when getting out the car etc. This is caused by your underwear! Apparently when you drive, rubbing your arse around the seat, creats stadic electricty. So when you get out the car, touch the car body, you get zapped becasue the whole car is an earth. Basically your getting rid of the static.
