after market mufflers

Post by Herron »

Hey everyone,

Ive been thinking about getting some sort of after market muffler put onto my car, does any one have any suggestions of brands/ how much buying and fitting would cost. Im not after a cannon or anything obnoxiously loud, just something a little more inspiring :).

I Plan to do the whole system eventually but money is a factor for me, so one section at a time i guess. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

My custom system cost $1100 a few years ago.

You want:
2.5" Mandrel bent system
High flow cat

In my case, I have 2 triple flow mufflers as I have quad tips. If you only have a single exit, youll only need one of those

You also want RPW/Hurricane extractors, but these will cost you around $600 if you get them new.

That will get you something like this:

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replys. I'm just looking at getting a single twin tip muffler done atm. But will definantly look into the headers and cat in the future :). Oh and on a side note how much trouble do you think I'll have with the cops? I feel like young driver in Japanese import + after market mufflers could potentially cause issues haha.

Yeah fair point. It doesn't stop people profiling you based on what your car looks and sounds like. Anyway, thanks for the help guys.

I have had three FTOs on the road (four total) and have only been pulled over twice in nearly three years.

Once in my first stock silver GPX and once in my blue GPX which had an open apexi pod filter and a GReddy Trust exhaust which were both really loud when hitting Mivec (and once because I had a P Plate cube on the back but thats irrelevant haha)

Both were because I floored it in first gear from a set of lights

Act sensible and you wont get done for anything unless you have stupidly huge chromies and a punched out cat or something.

    You'll be right ;)

And dont get a cannon. Thatll get you noticed as well. Just get a nice sports system and all will be well.

The high flow cat was about $350 of that price from memory. Be aware that you wont get much of a power gain if you leave the restrictions in place. The headers are restrictive and so is the stock cat. Leaving that aside though, you still want a 2.5" Mandrel bent system. Normal pipe bends are restrictive and upping the pipe size from 2.25" to 2.5" will help as well.
