child restraints

Post by snowspot »

hi,
just joined the forum and hope to be around in future.
i am looking at buying a 1995 fto and it does not have the child restraints fitted, must have been removed at some stage.
But i need a restraint for my 3yo , yes i know fto's and kids might not be too cool., but i want some power/performance again. and the handbrake has agreed to get it, yey !!

Anyway does anyone know where i can get a set of these restraints, i have searched the forum and cant find much info or any pics of these.
Seems most want them removed but i NEED them or i cant buy the car.

fyi - it is a 1995 FTO GPX done 175000 kms
any help with this is appreciated
thanks

Hey Glen,

Not really to sure where to get them, but looking at mine they appear to just be a DIY job done by the compliance guy. Idk for sure, but I'm assuming that every ones will differ slightly.

hi, thanks for quick response, i really dont wanna commit to buying car if i cant be assured of getting a proper restraint in there.
ive had a bit of a look at the shelf and think i can identify the hole for restraint.

I could fit a standard anchor point but getting it long enough to poke through the speaker grill might be an issue.
would love a set of genuine ones.

Also appears the backing plate for restraint isnt there either.
Might have to give this one a miss
damn

cheers

The FTO's never had child restraints from factory.
They have been installed for compliance to Australian standards.
I have removed mine and they are just a bit of steel bar bent into a bridge shape, a bit like this __/T\__
2 bolts on the lower flats to bolt to the parcel shelf and a threaded hole in the top for the restraint bolt.
The speaker grill would have 2 holes cut into it for the restraint bolt.

I can take a pic of mine tomorrow out of the car and a pic of underneath the parcel shelf, but I don't want to remove my speaker cover to show the mounting points from above.

Another option is going to an importer/compliancer and getting them to install some for you.
LED ALL the things.

Meanwhile.
It's possible that just the anchor has been removed and a plug put in...
The brackets could still be there, and all you need is to get the anchor latches from SuperPov.

If however the parcel shelf is unmolested, then there should be someone who'd want to do swaps as it's more desirable.

The other issue you are going to have is that the brackets and anchor points vary according to the place that complied them. You can get a set of brackets, but just be aware that you may have to drill new holes and hackup the parcel shelf a bit more.

Oh and on the plus side, Cameron (my son) was a regular traveller in the back of my FTO until around age 7.He used to love it.

Until age 7, when his legs met the back of the front seats?

Nah, he would have still fit in easily enough on the passengers side with the seat forward, but stopped using as a daily drive at that point and also he was then allowed in the front. He now travels in the front if he comes with me.

No luck on the wreck in the shed. It has single posts, so wont match the holes you have. I should have kept ones ive had in previous cars ive parted out, but never thought anyone would want them. Sahin may be able to help as well.
