Re: Engine & Timing.... knock sound ???
Praying to god its not the case, cant go without a car for much longer !!
I've forward him the details to check for missing washer/s, he said he did check after he pulled it off first time and couldn't find anything inside.

Re: Engine & Timing.... knock sound ???
When he removed the manifold, if a washer had dropped in it could have gone straight through an open valve.
Then when he checked the lower manifold he wouldn't be able to see the washer as it is already in the combustion chamber.
This is not a rare occurance, it has happened before.

Re: Engine & Timing.... knock sound ???
Hi guys, unfortunately all the checks were done again and no missing washers or nuts etc, engine sounds like a bit of a tractor at the moment (worse). Hes called up a guy to come check it out who has worked on them before and has mentioned that he personally had problems with them and it turned out to be the solenoids on them. Apparently mine is coming from the valve timing Anyone know much info on this ??

Re: Engine & Timing.... knock sound ???
Considering the solenoids activate at 5500rpm, that is not your problem.
FTO's do have a problem with tappet noise, but that is a constant tapping noise as it running, not erratic

And he's going to bring his mate in to tell you the same thing.Daniel2019 wrote:Yeah nothing to do with that...

Take it to a mechanic that isnt connected to him and get them to check it. If something has been dropped, forward the costs on to him.

Get him to stick an inspection camera down each spark plug hole and see if there is any damage.

Re: Engine & Timing.... knock sound ???
Got an email with this news.
It appears that it has a blown head gasket on number 6 cylinder it is only a very small leak and probably a result of the waterpump failure and a slight overheating at some stage. This probably aloud a small amount of water to leak in while it was sitting for so long. When started again it may have damaged a valve or a rocker slightly due to a slight hydraulic lock when first started and would explain rattle. Good news is that everything electronic is working and injectors, sensors and solinoids ect seem fine. If no cylinder damage has accrued which is unlikely it should be a mater of removing the front head and replaceing head gasket and havig the head serviced to check valves and cams ect. This would allso confirm if anything has gone into intake etc however again unlikely as we cant see any damage on the top of any pistons.
I'm pretty pissed as my car was running fine before i dropped it in, i had no overheating issues as i was constantly monitoring the temp gauge.
your thoughts,

Seems sketchy, but that's just me.
Get it independently verified.

Re: Engine & Timing.... knock sound ???
Yeah i've had a few guys confirm it for me, it makes no sense. I'm now sure hes bent the valves and its pushed through cylinder 6 and damaged the head gasket which could explain coolant now in that cylinder, i went down to look for my self there was no coolant inside when i took the spark plug off and the knock is from that cylinder. There was no signs off coolant inside when he replaced the rocker covers when he changed them and each time he has taken it off and re checked.. so i dare say this knocking would have damaged cylinder 6 or god knows what else it has done. I've asked to be there when he takes the had off myself i want to see, got a mate who will get it sent to a place for testing.

Surely if it was a head gasket he would've noticed smoke after running it before?

Re: Engine & Timing.... knock sound ???
mmm i knew it from day 1 when i heard it. i just didn't think it would be possible in this day and age.
When i was in there last time i noticed the rear cam was out by 1 - 1.5 teeth out, showed him and he re adjusted it it did help with the engine it wasnt shaking as much. here is pic. this is the rear cam, he said that the rear cam being out shouldn't affect the front cam where the noise is coming from in cyl 6
Could 1 or 2 teeth bend valves in a mivec engine ??

No, one or two teeth is fine.
Have seen engines with 3 teeth out on one cam, just runs a bit sh*t.

Re: Engine & Timing.... knock sound ???
Hi guys, looks like you were all correct, i have also spoken to a few of my mechanic mates about this and got their opinions but they cannot tell until they pull it apart and inspect what damage has been done, most of them have said that the damage inside could be far beyond repair.
I've asked him to call me so i can take the head to my mate and hes gone and done this on a saturday, not sure how parts were readily made available so quick in a day.
" found there was a small item stuck in the exhaust valve causing low compression on cylinder 6. dont know what it was but unfortunately I have to assume that it was our fault. I made a call to my engine guy and although he charged me like a wounded bull I was able to get it fixed valves laped and head machined today the head has now been refited inc a new head gasket and bolts".
I'm definetly convinced now the entire engine is fucked as the thing has been bouncing around inside, got one of my mates whos worked on it going to come and independently inspect it.
I think the car has been running for a good 1-2 hours with it inside, he mentioned he had it going to an hour at one point. and its been started quite a few times.
This absolutely sucks but looks like im up for an engine swap. Absolutely gutted !!

Yeah f**k that, get another engine from Ichiban, get a real mechanic to fix it and take all your receipts to him.
