Well the Brembos clear (just). Any other issues you can think of?
Just? Just... with a 20mm spacer
"Just" because you started with wheels as low offset as stock.

The RPF1s are +22, so no spacer required. 8)

But to confirm, the brake bracket setup from prefacelift to facelift is unchanged?
The bolt spacing on the hubs is the same, yes.

So despite it being labelled for 97-01, it will fit earlier model years?

edit:

Never mind after looking on the site more I found this for the 94-97. http://justjap.com/brakes/brake-kits/at ... 94-97.html

The question is, is it worth the extra $200 to take the 330x32mm option on the four pots as opposed to the 304x28mm?

Personal choice really. 330mm is the same size as the Evo ones. If you're just using them for spirited street driving, I'd suggest the 304mm ones would be ample.

Remember, the larger you go, the more reciprocating mass you add to the end of your driveshafts. I.e a loss of power.

Would it be fair to assume that the 304x28 is still a fairly common size of rotor?

Linky

Apparently so

Yeah, I'd googled it, just wondered if your prior automotive experience had some recollection of it already.

I'm emailing Darron at the moment, but rotors last a fair while don't they? Depending on quality/use?

Just adding in here as it's topical, but after a probably overdue Google search it appears Freaky Parts do a Wilwood bolt on kit for the FTO, doesn't mention how many pots the caliper is, and rotor is 294mm or something.

A French-guy owned and Taiwanese built company called Ceika (I believe was the spelling) also does multiple options for an apparently bolt on kit. Much in the vein of PB brakes, followed a thread on a BMW forum and the hardware is seemingly quality enough. Two year warranty on basically all of the kit.

A few of the guys on ftooc have the wilwood kit supplied by Stuart at Freaky (he's an ex owner, still a forum member over there I think).

You know any more about the kit?

Apart from it's expensive... And so are replacement rotors...

Best bet ... Do the Brembo conversion like Bennoz ... Or the GTO conversion like I have... That way you can buy stock rotors locally that are off the shelf, and save $$$$$

Not really, i've heard it's good but there have been a couple of issues with the hub needing a little bit of filing where the casting is rough but not on all.
It's not that cheap but none are.

I supplied Freak with the blueprints on how to create that kit. I got them off a guy in Barbados years ago. See if I've still got them somewhere.

I think it's just a bit over £500 which isn't too bad? Import duty is a bit of a pain, mind.

The Ceika kit is tempting despite some reviews, I think I priced up a 4 pot kit with 330x32mm rotors for about 1300 or so...

Yeah, doesn't seem too bad then ..

If you went my way... Probably looking at something like :-

$300 rotors (Local off a 350z)
$300 for used GTO callipers. (Think I paid $350)
$200 for bracket

So already $800.. With no pads, and no lines... Obviously you can get cheaper rotors, but there is a comparison to an off the shelf kit. And assumes you don't need to rebuild the callipers...

Yeah, a few of the BMW guys have used them. Someone had them installed before their ownership on their Porsche GT3 or something. Lots of pics on their Facebook of it being tracked/drifted.

Are you looking at going over the top with brakes, or do you have a future project in mind requiring larger brakes than stock? :?

Not too over the top. Wanting to keep my RPF1s is a good limitation for the moment. Basically I'm only really looking into because I have the Brembos, which work fine and everything but I'm not sold on the bracket/hub modification. So since I can sell them (hhopefully) a new BBK will cost less than it would otherwise.

I don't necessarily have a future 'project', but I have some ideas, so I figure why not.

Would it not be easier just to source stuff for your existing brake setup, rather than trying to sell the old ones and buy new ones?
