FTO wont start possible causes?

Post by Invader_X »

Hi all helping a friend out check out an FTO.

Car won't start battery is fine but was able to push start it.

worse case scenario for this is the starter motor correct?

Is there any other causes possibly worse than this? Is there any other diagnostics I can run to isolate it to the starterms?

Apologies should have listed my diagnostics:

1) Battery volt gauge reads 11.8 - 12v when engine is off
2) Battery volt gauge is reads around 14 when car is running
3) No clicking sounds whats so ever from starter motor or even a hint of it trying to crank the engine.
4) Slight whirring sound from somewhere in the engine when the key is held in "Start"
5) All electronics including aircon works fine.

Will check fuse, which fuse box is it located in? Does anyone have a diagram and also what Fuse size/amp does it require?

I don't have a scanner damn.

Can anyone give me a Best case and worse case scenario on this base don costs?

Thanks all

If it will push start then I would say starter motor, try giving it a tap while turning the key in case the solenoid is sticking, may be burnt out though.

Sorry but what do you mean by giving it a little tap? The accelerator?

Actually hitting the starter motor with a hammer, but not very hard.

Just an update, we tried push starting it without turning the key. Popped the clutch and the car started. Once the car was running tried turning the igniton and could hear the sound you hear when you've turned the ignition for too long.

If you have successfully puch started the car, its either the battery or the starter motor
