helping a friend buy an fto: gearbox nois

Post by Invader_X »

So I took the fto that we were looking at to my mechanics

We put a long metal rod on the gear box and we can hear vibrations th rough the rod to ear.

Could this just be low on fluid? No crunches or anything.

GR model 171,000 kms on clock

Anyone have any similar experience

Could be low, but could be a few other things, worn bearings etc.
There's a big ugly c**t around here somewhere that rebuilds them

Input shaft bearing is an item to be replaced when clutch is changed?

On another friend's FTO vibration seem to happen between 2000 - 4000 rpm, would that be it too? 1994 GPX

Nup, input shaft bearing is in the box. Time to put a full bearing kit through it. We buy them from Cobra transmissions in the US. If you search you'll find the part number here.
