Crank pulley bolt won't undo - any tips?

Post by Rob Furniss »

Need to get the cambelt off to do the half moons on Rowans car but the crank pulley bolt won't shift.
I've made something to lock the pulley and tried a breaker bar and an air-driven impact wrench but it won't shift.
I will try again tomorrow but does anyone have tips/suggestions as to what else to try?
I'm sure it wasn't on this tight on my fto.

Put an extension on the handle of the breaker bar. A 1.5m length of pipe over the handle will help. Mind you,ive broken a breaker bar doing this.

It's the only way I got mine done...and I tried everything.
I even lowered the entire car onto a wedged breaker bar and it held the car up 8O

Just make sue you unplug the crank sensor so the car can't start!

Did that on the old car and it worked, thought it was a bit dodgy/looked like a crazy fool doing it as it lifted the car up!

    just went through this.

car in fifth gear, someone step on the breaks.
massive long breaker bar and she will crack loose.

or you could just attach a socket to the breaker bar and let it rest on the ground. and crank it, make sure you unplug the crank angle sensor though.
    didnt work for me however.

    i recommend the first one.

I have a Sumake one at work (was decent price too) that does about 1,500Nm.. SP ones are also good. Snap-on ones are good too but overpriced. Blue point ones aren't as good as they used to be.

1.5 metre bar didn't shift it but that was me being a pansy (I could see my breaker flexing so backed off).
Bar against the suspension arm and cranked it did the job, FTO power all the way.
