Storage of unrego'd car?

Post by mezje »

Hey guys,

So I have had someone message me who seems pretty keen to get rid of their FTO and it is an absolute bargain.

The car would likely need some work and is unrego'd - I can park it on the street until it is roadworthy and with rego but am worried of it being stolen. I know I could d/c the battery and put fake plates on it for the time being but I'm still a bit unsure.

What is the best thing to do in this situation? I assume I would need temp rego to drive it home? Apologies if these are silly questions...

Cheers!

Nah I found a mate who lives close, will store it under his carport with fake plates on.

The plan is to pick it up, sell my car, get temp rego and take it to a mech and ask for everything that is needed for a rwc to be done, then rego it :)

By law it can't be on the road if it is unregistered. Therefore you cannot park it on a council owned road. It has to stay on private land or risk being towed if a neighbour complains.

I think that was because it was such an eyesore though, not because it was un rego'd

The car would be in a car port until I had the cash to take it to get it everything done for RWC (I would get an unrego'd vehicle permit).

Fake/spare plates were to put people off stealing it and yeah, I would remove the battery too.
