Inner plastic guard

Post by whwotjd »

I left my car at a garage to get it fixed but they pretty much ripped off my passenger side inner plastic guard and lost the screws (cause they're not in the yoghurt tin they gave me with all the screws) and gave it all back to me. I put the guard back in but after a few days' driving, it's starting to sag and rub against my tyres. I'll probably cable-tie them but if I leave it out, will it damage my car in any way?

Only if you drive on dirt or gravel. The stones/sand can eventually strip the plastic off the wires. I believe you can be defected without them too, although youd have to be unlucky.

Thanks, so plain city driving on asphalt/concrete road shouldn't damage it? I guess that makes sense since there's nothing flicking up into it. Hopefully I won't be lazy enough to leave it out permanently.

Edit: Just read up stuff on it, it's raining a lot here so I probably will fix it up, got scared after reading some stuff haha

Other thing is that it can mean water and stones and crap gets flicked up onto your belts.. Meh, get rid of them for weight reduction.

Is there anyone that's taken them off/doesn't use them and if they've had any problems?

I did cabletie them this afternoon, just getting curious now

That won't happen if it's on the passenger side.

They do put them there for a reason though

Yeah cause there are cables running around that area, so I'm guessing they'd get damaged

If you're lowered then it will rub on the cables, at least both of mine have. It only gets so far seemingly, so everything still works but obviously not entirely ideal. I'm thinking about wrapping or covering them a bit more but haven't really thought how though.

So you drove through rain and water without problems?

Mine's not lowered but I have 17s which rub against the guard on full lock but didn't really seem to rub on anything when I had the guard off.

I normally just keep the one that hangs down and protects the belts, but leave the actual arch ones out.
