Driving Unregistered Vehicle

Post by Chromobolt »

Probably more for the QLD members but all input is appreciated :) I got a car I need to drive to get some work done on it for a roadworthy (pink slip).. What's the go in QLD?? Can I get an Unregistered Vehicle Permit from Queensland Transport (RTA) or are things different up here??

Just drive it there... and make sure you only drive it to be worked on/registered... i drove around for 3 days with no plates... drove past several cops too... guess they figure if you're gonna drive around in broad daylight with no plates you've prob got a legit reason

f**k, I wouldn't do it in NSW. Just about ever coppers car is equipped with cameras that do plate tech. No plates, old plates, wrong plates - runs checks on them on the spot.

Last time it cost me $502 for un-rego, $502 for uninsured. Told that's now gone up too.

Yep, I got in sh*t cause my "direct route" home from driving unregistered from Vic was via a car wash... 1 side street of the highway, and they raped me... :(
I just had to add it ......

I talk a lot of sh*t, usually have to keep a roll of toilet paper handy in the car for my mouth

Hahaha thanks guys I'll definitely be wearing pants so if I get pulled over I'll just have to start flicking him cash.. Cos that's a far better legal option then a sexual favor ;)

Can confirm. I got pulled over going down the M4 in a work ute, rego was apparently expired for ~3 days.
I had to sit and wait a few hours to be rescued, lol..
Funnily enough the boss got a speeding ticket driving to my place the next day, so I could drive him to the ute to get it registered...

He wrote a few letters and got out of BOTH fines. God damn crazy.

As for driving to the mech for a slip - legal in NSW at the very least... But definitely have to be careful about the 'direct route' deal as mentioned.

it's all covered with link I posted before; but (since you probably didn't read it) here's the spoon fed version:
When you don’t need an unregistered permit

You can only move an unregistered vehicle without a permit to apply for registration. To do this, you must have a completed vehicle registration application (F3518) (PDF, 421KB) and a valid CTP insurance certificate with you when making the journey.

You must directly drive from the location where the vehicle is located to your nearest transport and motoring customer service centre. You can only stop along the way to get a:

gas certificate
weighbridge certificate
safety certificate/COI certificate (including road testing as part of a safety certificate/COI inspection)
written-off vehicle inspection (allowed for repairable write-offs only)
Queensland Police Service inspection (surrogate)
surrogate identification number/s stamped on the vehicle.
You must not stop anywhere else on your journey.
CTP Premium Rates - Class 22
Day Rate
$ 1.10
^ pay attention to the words in bold :P

And yes, I realise that I sound cranky. Think I'm about to become one the cranky old dudes that all be like "damn these gen Y's" "back in my days". :?

I actually had that exact thought when I was writing it.
...then realised I shouldn't name anyone specifically since I didn't have pants on at the time.
