Need to push brake pedal to turn off car.

Post by getonit »

Hi gang

Just bought my first FTO.
Is a 1995 GPX.
Not sure if this is standard or an issue, cannot find any info googling it.
When i turn the key off, and even remove the key, the engine continues running until i push the brake pedal and then shuts down.
The bloke i bought it of said it was doing it when he bought it and had no idea if it was some quirky idea or a fault.
Any info much appreciated.

Nope, shouldnt be doing that. If you have a tiptronic, you often needto have the brake on to get out of park, but nothingwith respect to the ignition.

Sounds like someone might have wired in a turbo timer.

If you remove the key and leave it running does it turn off by itself after a bit?

Funny you say that. I was thinking that myself a few minutes ago.

Does it have a remote start alarm system?
They do that as well quite frequently

No turbo timer, naturally aspirated model.
      Has an immobiliser.
Maybe someone stuffed up the wiring of that? Or thought it would be quirky to do just that.
Anyway, daughters car, and she thinks it's cool?????

Some alarms/immobilisers have a turbo time feature.

It doesn't need to have a turbo to have someone think it's "cool" and wire it up.
