Timing belt intervals

Post by payaya »

So just telling ya know how far I pushed my timing gear parts.

Cars done 270k. First replaced belt only at 140000kms. Noticed the idler pulley had play in it. Left it.

Water pump went at 170000kms. Did not replace belt. Idlers play still same. Replaced at 270000kms with new kit, old belt looked new still, idler same amount of play!

I reckon a belt change takes me 2 hours now as my most annoying bit is holding the cams but I have cam holders and this! Best tool ever!

Risk of slipping and chipping the cams?
Or are they tough enough?

Tough enough. Doesn't take much to hold it there.
