Hey guys,

So i need to do my 100,000km service. I've got all the parts organised for it, apart from the seals.
Now, I don't know much at all about which seals I need, the quantity, and where to source them (part numbers etc). I have searched the forums but couldn't find everything I need - my knowledge is currently patchy. So hopefully this thread will include all the seals that need to be replaced at the 100,000km service as well as the quantity, part numbers and supplier.


So far, I know/think that I need the following seals/gaskets:

- Double Half Moon Seal
- Half Moon Seal
- Crank Seal
- Head Gasket
- Cam Seal
- Rear Main Seal

At the same time, my gearbox will be getting rebuilt, so the specialists will take car of the gearbox side of the seals (input shaft seal etc)

Basically, is my list correct? What else is there to add - how many of each seal will I need, and do you guys have part numbers / ideas where I can source them from?

Has most parts, but not the double half moon and spark plug valves from memory.

I assume you have a GPX?

While you are at it, change the water pump too, and the pulleys too.

Not sure if I should change my water pump or not? I'm sitting at around 103,000kms. About 10,000kms ago, somewhere around 90,000-95,000kms, I had my timing belt replaced, and the mechanic said that my water pump looks fine and doesn't need to be changed. Should i still change it (now)?
But yeh, I'm doing a fair bit more with the service.. e.g. Spark plugs, adjusting tappets, fuel pump/filter etc.

I'm also pulling out my gearbox to get the synchros replaced, and might upgrade my clutch and flywheel while I'm at it. So its all piling up to a few thousand $$.


As for the seals, i've gathered i need:

4x Camshaft Seals
1x Crank Seal
2x Head Gaskets
1x Rear Main Seal
2x Half Moon Seals
2x Double Half Moon Seals

Pretty sure the water pump is usually done as part of the 100k service. Why was the belt done early?

I will look up the receipts I had, when I first got the car and give you a better answer.

Remember billy, it's every 100,000 or every 5 years? Maybe 10? Kinda like oil, they have two variables determining life span

Additional seals not in the pack I mentioned:
4 x rear camshaft plug seals
18 valve cover bolt seals(not sure if you need these, as my cambox was replaced too. old cambox was stuffed due to old sealant creeping in and starving oil gallerys right after I bought the car, after attempts to clean them off didn't work too well)

Hulk, I have a question regarding this. Is this just for sports type engines, or any engine?

New cars from KIA for example, has a 7 year warranty, does that mean they change this too, under their capped servicing plans?
I have an Echo and I do not think I have changed any seals on them, ever, and they are fine, with no leaks, after 16 years.

Dealer service items are only consumables. Seals/gaskets are only replaced when disturbed or leaking.

Head gaskets are definitely not a part of a 100k service, they are as needed only.

Having said that, timing belt is a service interval based replacement and if you're going that far then do your cam seals if you can be bothered, and your water pump, rocker cover gaskets and spark plug seals. Seeing as intake manifold is coming off for that, you may as well do that too.

Also, 4 x rear spark plug seals? You know we only have 3 plugs front and 3 plugs rear yes?

Because your box is coming out, yes do your rear main.

Crank seal is up to you as balancer is coming off and it will be right there.

It is whichever comes first and varies between manufacturers and it applies for every vehicle. Mazda has recently moved to 12 months/10k between services. Previously was 6 months/10k.

Warranty covers faulty parts only. If it isn't leaking, they won't replace it unless it is removed to get to something else. I.e. rocker cover gaskets if camshaft is being replaced.

Only serviceable items are included (e.g. fluids, filters). Seals/gaskets, consumables like brake pads etc. are not included in service pricing.

So far i've ordered:

4x Camshaft Seals
1x Crank Seal
2x Head Gaskets
2x Double Half Moon Seal
1x Rear Main Seal


And I have no idea what the "Half moon seal" is used for, or where i can find any...? - I think its an interchangeable name with the double half moon seal? (They're the same?)

My intake manifold gasket is fine, and for the rocker cover, I was thinking of using Permatex RVT High Temp. Also the plug seals, apparently only need to be replaced if there are signs of oil

So you're gonna do a pair of head gaskets which don't need to be done, but not an intake manifold gasket that is getting removed anyway?

Do the plug tube seals, you may as well. Take literally 10 extra seconds to do.

And don't use sealant on your rocker cover. Use the proper gaskets and put a drop of Threebond Gasket Gray or similar in any parts that have a little bump or join (usually in the corners)
