Alright, so it has been quite a while since i've worked on Le FTO - been to busy with uni.
Finally finished my exams and everything, so I have some solid time to finish this build, with the deadline being the end of July.

So unfortunately, the car still looks like this:

Image

HOWEVER! I've bought and organised quite a few more upgrades, so there's going to be a tonne of progress in the next few weeks till the build is complete.

Firstt off, I bought loads of seals/gaskets/hoses to rebuild the 6a13tt, because.. well, why not. I'm aiming for reliability more than anything.

Image

Next, I bought everything i needed for a the Brembo upgrade/conversion... because... why not.
So that includes, Evo 6 control arms, hubs, rotors, pads, brembos, brake booster and distribution block.
As well as a rebuild kit so I can rebuild the brembos.

Image

They're massive in comparison to the stock calipers.

Image

Image

And of course, being that wide, they weren't going to fit with my XXR's, so I sold them..

Image

And bought Rota Grid R's (17x9+25)
Now i'm not a huge fan of Rota's, but i've always wanted to try this spoke style out, and for what I paid, I'm happy that this complies with functionality > form. Even though they should look sweet on there ;)
(I will repaint them and remove the stickers)

Image

Image

To compliment my brembos, I bought some new DBA T2 Slotted Rotors, and Ferodo DS Performance pads. The rotors are just as big as the rims, it's hilarious, but will look dope! 8)

So finally, with all my parts available to me, it's time to get to work.

Currently working on rebuilding the steering rack, as well doing a top end rebuild of the 6a13tt (Minus head gaskets). Which so far looks to be in great condition.

Oh! And I got the speedo gear and bearings pressed onto the LSD ehuehue.
So by Friday, I aim to:
- Rebuild Steering Rack
- Rebuild 6a13tt
- Assemble Gearbox
- Relocate Brake Distribution Block
- Relocate Fuel Filter

Which are basically the main bits out of the way in order to compression test and properly fit the 6a13tt into the car.

Fantastic work Shiggz.
What do you mean by rebuild the 6A13? Are you doing a full tear down?

Top end rebuild :D
So, cam seals, gaskets, injector seals, all that good stuff. As well as timing belt.
The timing belt tensioner pulley was.. old. Loose and had too much slop. Also noticed a minor leak from the crank seal. So I'm lucky I'm doing this all now.

So did a little bit today, started of with some errands to organise some things.
Kicked off the car work with some frozen maccas drinks ;)

Drilled a hole in the firewall lol

Image

Put a rivnut (nutsert) in there. God I love these things

And mounted my new fuel filter as well as brake distribution block

What kind of brake booster is that?
Did the car start life as an auto?

That's an ABS brake booster
Which also came out on all GPvR's

Nono, neither haha
My FTO is a manual GPX. Thats an evo brake booster

Or from an Eco they have a 1 inch brake booster as well lol

You can't mount the brake distribution block there. It can't be above the master cylinder reservoir, the reservoir has to be the highest point in the system.

Yeah see this is what I was thinking, however this is where 'dazjb' mounted his; from his thread "Project FTO Vr4".
Otherwise the other option is on the firewall on the gearbox side, near the Heater core piping

I've tried to do some research on it, but couldn't find anything. What's the reasoning behind it having to be below the master cylinder? Because assuming the lines are air-free and are always with fluid; having constant pressure, it should be okay?

Edit: Yep nevermind, it's pretty silly to run it above the master cylinder, because fluid will be drained back into the cylinder. Unless you run a residual valve. I wonder if that's what dazjb did..

I told you to chuck it on the chassis rail on drivers side. lol

Would a 1" BMC on a standard booster cause brake pedal feel issues?

Nope not at all!
I ran a 1" BMC on my stock GPX Manual booster, and to be honest I didn't really feel much difference.

Not at all.
Done the same thing on my Evo.

Thanks guys.
And does an auto booster, or 1" booster on a 15/16" BMC cause overly sensitive brakes?

The brake distribution block is fine on the firewall. I've had mine there for over a year with no problems. I also know of two other people in the FTOOC who have the VR4 conversion with the block in the same place without issues.

Are you running residual valves on your lines?
Also, I probably won't mount it on the firewall because it's against regulations; the car won't pass the pits in the future if the distribution block is 'above the centreline of the brake master cylinder'
