An elucidating time on the rolling road. ECU thinks it's reading up to boost cut at 14psi, dumping in fuel, sometimes cutting it, otherwise just wobbling about. Didn't have time for it today, but booked in later to test for any leaks which may be causing the difference in reading, or other possibility is that it's the MAF sensor itself. Explains why my fuel economy is so utterly horrendous.

This Gen-Y'er knows a few not small words.

Meanwhile TME reckons the running problems are due to pod filter turbulence through the MAF, even with a bit of distance between them. Vectose suggested an older Magna airbox as a possible fit for the very limited space and it's pretty much on the money, so we'll rig up something that works, see if it fixes everything, and make a more permanent solution if it does.

I remember reading a few years ago that the Legnum peeps would have similar issues if they put a pod on.

Yeah it was pretty consistent with what a lot of them were going through, running rich, cutting out. After using an extra joiner to test it, results were significantly different enough to determine it was most if not all of the issue. Had the piping modified and box secured.

Image

Something still feels a little off, which might just be a byproduct of an entirely different piping system on a stock tune, back on the dyno sometime next week and guess I'll see what if, anything, to do from there.

Pretty sure it was a 94-96 TS Magna. This one has the 2.6, but pretty sure the 6G engine is the same airbox or similar, and so is the GTO/3000GT.

Some more graphs, factory rich tune but otherwise looking good.

Tractive Effort (dunno how that translates to torque)

Boost

And after a lot of f**king around with Supercheap and their sh*tty website, got a K&N panel filter ordered in since it was only like $70 and who knows how old the other one is (pretty fuckin' dusty too).

Did get that K&N in. Thinking about how I can route some fresh air into it, but seems fine otherwise.

Image

And shockingly, made it to bonfire and back without any major hiccups other than the oil being a bit low when I checked it today (think the sump plug needed like another 1/8th of a turn). Got impressive economy on the highway too. Worst was about 10L/100km after hauling up the hill from Dstocks to Canberra and through Melbourne, think the best was about 7.5, and usually was around 8. Not bad for a TT V6 from the 90s 8)

Image

Image

Still have this scrapey squeak from the LHS, which is probably a combination of rotor/pad and wheel bearing (even though there's no play yet).

Not long until the guts of this is in another one lol. Getting the LHS wheel bearing assembly replaced and rotor and pad cleaned up, hopefully the end of my metallic squeaks.

Here we go for VecSwaps 2.0 How to 6A13 convert your FTO: Abridged

1. Be a spaz and buy back the car you sold three years ago
2. Do lots of things twice
3. ???
4. Definitely no profit

Where we started
Image

Disassembling basically two entire vehicles
Image

Image

Engines out
Image

Making new brackets for the Kinugawa wastegate actuators. Fortunately one of the VR4 guys dad had a welder and equipment we could borrow. Unfortunately we discovered afterwards there wasn't enough clearance for the clutch slave bleed nipple. Ground it down to make it fit since we only had so much time.
Image

Sadly the nicer looking bracket was the problem child  Can also see the Mamba CHRAs installed at the same time. Billet compressor wheel, and a 9-blade as opposed to stock 11-blade turbine wheel for top end flow. Some of the fittings were a bit dicky but got there in the end.
Image

Image

Image

Back side
Image

Relocating the brake distribution block and re-routing lines again
Image

Image

Also relocated battery to the boot
(will chuck a pic up when I get a sec)

Dealing with inconveniences like this little sh*t stripping the thread for the turbo oil feed, and leaking all over the floor. Helicoiled and now good.
Image

Bit of a juggling act putting the exhaust back on but v-bands are pretty convenient once you actually line them up
Image

Hardrace camber & toe arms and new rear discs and pads in
Image

Image

Started to look like a car again
Image

Kept the "Rays" LCAs and chucked the Whiteline 22mm sway bar in the back
Image

Image

Rob was nice and put the interior back together
Image

Went back on the ground
Image

Image

Image

And out for a test drive
Image

We did put some stiffer springs in the actuators but Rob reckons they may be underrated since boost levels haven't really changed. Otherwise all seems pretty good. Not much left to do in the grand scheme. Dstocks bar needs foglight brackets on the inner modified or changed as they're too high for the reinforcement bar to actually fit on (hence no front bar yet); desperately needs a wheel alignment; ordered a rear caliper seal kit as we had to already swap out one seized one and the boot is split on the other; and brakes need a professional bleed as even after two rounds they're veeery spongy.

In other news, one of the repaired captive nuts in the white FTO has broken again, so I'll have to get that addressed before I can organise putting it up for sale  But it starts and runs so could be worse.

Big props to Rob (Vectose) from VecTec for flying down and tolerating this bullshit for over a week, and even extending his stay when sh*t hit the fan. Absolute legend 8) and lucky me 'cause he'll never do it again for the same price
