Drags tonight Perth Motorplex Wed 16 May

Post by Rob Furniss »

It's Whoop Ass Wednesday so i'm off to Perth Motorplex tonight, first run in the Supercharged FTO so will be interesting to see how I do, assuming I pass scrutineering.

It's Boost night tonight so cheap to run if you have turbo or supercharger, no idea what will turn up - could be anything there I suppose.
I'm not expecting to beat many cars just to set a time, low 14's would be ok, 13's would be better as my previous in the Red one was 14.06 but that was UK and not the same (conditions, different car, different track).

This is still Tiptronic too and I haven't had it dyno tuned yet - just giving myself excuses for when I post results up.

Don't forget to drop your tyre pressures & rip a massive skid!

Can’t rip a skid in an auto
Just neutral dump it into drive at 5k revs

13.768 - not bad for an Auto.
Very busy tonight so I called it a day after 4 runs.
I'm really pleased actually, ran a 14.3 then a 13.9, 14.0 then this 13.768. I was against an EVO on the last run, 8 I think.

Had a fair bit of wheel hop off the line on the first run but the last one wasn't so bad and felt a lot smoother.

Sweet, 12s with manual and a bit more tweaking ;)

1.3s reaction time for the EVO? Was he asleep?

That's usually how long it takes to get power to all 4 wheels of a lancer. Too busy making sure his carbon diffuser was stuck to the roof properly

Yeah don't know what was going on with the EVO, spooling his Turbo up? it felt like I was way in front.

I was wondering where the parents were of a few drivers as some looked really young - I guess I did once.
Quite a few P platers there (no P plate Turbo restriction in WA)

My Son has some vids, i'll post them up when I get them.

And yes Bennoz - the EVO had a carbon diffuser on the roof and one under the rear bar.

Might think about getting some extractors for next season, I haven't touched the exhaust at all. Maybe an anti-lift kit from whiteline too.
And it hasn't been professionally dyno tuned yet either, just me tuning it on 'the street'.
I'm hoping there's a 13.5 in it with doing the above, and no i'm not going emanuel I just love the slush.

My Son Rowan is hoping to get his Turbo FTO back from RPW in the next week or two, would be great if we can get them both together at the strip before the end of season as he has supposedly got way more power but otherwise it will be October. (I think he'll just spin the wheels though)

1st run - against 180SX Turbo, I won with a 14.3
2nd run - against Skyline ?, I won with a 13.976, his time was 18.1 seconds. His reaction wasn't bad 0.749 but his 60ft was 4.7 - must have been spinning the wheels.
3rd run - against Ford XR6 Turbo, I lost with a 14.079 vs his 13.903, I think I had him right till the end then he pipped me at the post.
4th run - against EVO 8/9, I won (but only cause of his bad reaction), 13.768 vs his 13.671

Pics (more later)
Run 3 XR6, it was a 'dude I almost had you' moment, well sort of. Next time.

And this was when I returned, the chat/camera guys were very intrigued and wanted to know about the car, they didn't have a clue what it was but thought it was crazy when I popped the bonnet.
I thought something had fallen off the car at first when they waved me over.

And that's a Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo matt black about to race the white Supra, the owner Dave has a manual GPX at home.

13.768 vs his 13.671

Last I checked 13.67 is less than 13.76 :P

The blue looks very deep at night but that's probably the poor quality phone camera at night.

Sure, but the timing system put me down for a win as I went through the 1/4 mile marker / posts before he did.
I don't know if it just does this on Whoop Ass Wednesday nights or all the time, probably depends on the competition type.

I think when I used to run in the UK it went purely off lowest ET, you could sit on the line for a couple of seconds if you wanted to and still be granted the win as long as you had the lowest time, in fact a lot of people did this as they were just concentrating on their time and getting their start right.
