I got A JVC MP3 head unit...for 500 you can get most of the JVC mid range line..top of the range goes for 700 or so but the main diff is it has MOSFET and touch panel....
Personally i went for the KD - G505 instead of the g805 purely cos i didnt like the buttons, i combined that with the MP3 CD changer and have a huge amount of music available to me in my car...
The unit and the changer set me back 610 after barganing with the guy at JB...
So if what u really after is MP3 playback...then i do recomend JVC :D

it yr tossing up between Alpine and JVC, then just go for Alpine. But if want best deck for your money, go for a Clarion.

I have the 825, but thats a bit old now but feature 24-bit. u should try and get the next model up, 835 for around $500. Outstanding deck for the price.

24 bit dac means jack SH*t.....
if you are spending around $500 id say go with alpine cda9827....they normally retail at $569 but im sure they can drop it to $495 for u :)
coming from someone that sell car audio ;)
and dont go the clarion...i bought one 746model....and i made mistake i should have gone the alpine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you can spent a little more go for the cda9830....prob get down to say $620

what you really need to see is not which one people recomend..you gotta listen to a few...and see which one sounds better to you..not just in specs....
Also look at features...what does the alpine has that the others dont..and the same for the clarion and JVC...copare their features and thow likely are you going to use those features...
well thats what i think.... :)

Hey Jono where abouts in canberra r ya?
JB is a good place in woden me thinks...
Another thing to consider is the FTO cabin isn't large so remember maybe you won't need as much output to generate great sound...
and one more thing... always bargain the price.... :D

aaaaaaaahahahhahahaaa
FTOluv what u smoking mate!!!!
do you know what DAC does and how many diff chipsets their are???
i think not....and stop thinking because the number is higher its better...
second of all. what audio do you listen to to pick up the difference?
the only time you would hear the diff is on DVD

here is an example look and read!!! and you willl find?
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh its only one bit regulated DAC.....and why did it win the sound and image award.... FTOluv thinking to himself "but its not 24bit dac" aaaaaaaaahahahhahahaa

so before you start giving strathfield advice. i suggest u do a little reading:)

and dont try to think u know what you are talking about...stick to boss audio!!!

sooo so back to my advice.....ALPINE or eclipse :P but dont think its in your price range...

ooh, I can't wait for Mil's reply :P

Anyway... when listening to any head units take along your own CDs. Especially something you are VERY familiar with and a piece of music you REALLY love. You will then be able to do a truer test as you'll be aware of any anomolies between the units.

First of all Stas, I never said the higher the number the better. I just said my model was old and he should be able to get the newer version of my deck AND I never said the Clarion was better than the Alphine I just said their is a difference between two decks of the same brand where one is 1bit and the other is 24bit.
The reason why YOU cant hear the difference is:
1. Your listening to copied CDs,
2. Your speakers are crappy.
3. Your deaf.
4. All of the above.

and it looks to me, your number 4. :D

So before u start raving on like a sorry ass sales rep, READ MY POST PROPERLY.

P.S.
Its funny how I cant afford the 8K system in my car

*Looks to Ruchi* Lucky it wasnt u this time
