Fto Oil Tempre Gauge (oem)

Post by adzski »

Hey guys long shot

But does anyone have an oem oil temp gauge?
I bought one years ago and i want to install but i have been trying to see if the gauge works.

Trying to understand the wiring, it is a 5 pin plug.

Ok so i had a play with this more and managed to get the lightd working.

For anyone that may scour the internet for the information like me below is what i found.

Yellow = Power for illumination (globes & led)
White & Blue = Ground for illumination

Red = Power
White = Assumed signal
Black = Ground

Yeah you need that dinky sump plug with the sender on it for the signal wire.

Do you think the oem gauge would work with a sensor on a Sandwich plate?

This is how i was planning on running it, instead of the sump plug.

As per Bennoz, I don't think it will work off a sandwich plate unless you try your luck with a single terminal.

Might be easier said than done to find something that even fits, then a gamble if it works.

Mezje i seen in another post, you used a sandwich plate for oil temp. How tight is the fit?

I forgot what the fto oil filter location is like compared to my spacious barra.

To be honest im not sure of the gauge even works, i managed to get it illuminate leds. I think i might get a cheap temp sensor and wire it up on a bench and see if i can get it to read temp of some hot water.

You can just use one of those brass 2 way adaptors & plug straight into the oil pump where the factory pressure sensor is.

I went with the Autometer pressure gauge (which have that massive sender unit), but the same principle would apply. You could run the factory temp & pressure sensors in that sort of set up. Most of my experiences with sandwich plates have been a leaky pain in the ass that, as you say, take up too much room.

The problem lies in the fact you need the factory sender. The gauge and sender need to have matched resistance values. So your readings are most likely going to be wrong if you use anything other than the factory sender.

You could identify the values required for the factory gauge and then using an aftermarket sender, map the values by means of an inline microprocessor to the values required for the gauge. But thats a whole lot of f**king around.

Thanks for the info and pics Bennoz.

Think i will use the same location you have used for oil pressure.

Wish I did have one. Have a gauge but no sender.

Lawso was meant to give me a sender back in the day. No idea where that ended up.
