Symptoms of central locking failure

Post by onnzo »

Hey Guys,
I have read about the weak central locking motors but there isn't much about the symptoms apart from it not working at all.

Sometimes when I press open, the central locking will open then close straight away. It happens about 1 in every 3 times. Closing never has a problem.

Can it be a weak central locking motor? I think it is opening, but not enough so it goes back to closing...

Any thoughts?

yep, it sounds like the motor,
probably oil build up started inside of it.
You can try to clean it, however, this is a temporary solution, will start having problems soon again.
Need to replace the motor.

theres another way of fixing it, you can do it by by-passing the surgprotector in the central locking system, you'll notice it gets hot and thats what cuasing the failure of the centralocking. its the round flat disc inline with the motor. it dies with age.

You mean bypassing the surge protector electrically?
Are there any downsides to this?

yeah my passanger door died without warning
i couldnt lock the door, only arm the alarm.
so i ended up pulling the door appart and unhooking the arm from the motor to the lock...
only manual locking for me now
any motors from other cars compatible ? .. something that may be easy to find in a wrecking yard ?

yes,

not really as its a current limiter (from what i know) and unless your use the central locking pnce per second for a few minutes, the chances of the motor over heating is not likely.
