Clueless...replacing stock speakers

I've had a read of some other posts but really don't know what I'm looking for/at.

One of my rear speakers is on it's way out I think (it's vibrating even at low level). I just want to replace them with something as good, or maybe a little better than the stock speakers. Could anyone make some recommendations? For example, I was looking at this site but have no idea which brand/model on there is what I should be looking at:

I had problems with a vibrating speaker in the door. Turns out the screws holding it in were loose

Might be a good idea to check this before forking out your hard earned cash on some new ones.

I have changed front and back speakers and its fairly easy.
regarding what type of speakers, it depends of your stereo setup and personal preference. Some might point you towards Sony, but many here won't agree. Personally i have a jvc system with jvc rears and pioneer front speakers.
So this is completely up to you, listen to different setups and then judge which speaker sounds best. If you can check out other fto's with diff speaker setup and see what sounds best to you...

Ok, so tackling this another way. What exactly are the stock speakers in an FTO? All I know about them is the size. What specs/details do I need to look for in a catalogue or shop?
Oh and my headunit is a double dim JVC unit. I've been happy with the setup in the car, I just want to match the stock speakers.

If you're getting replacement speakers for the rear, make sure that the tweeter cones don't stick up too far otherwise you won't be able to get the factory mesh grille back on. Might be best to take one out, then take it to the shop with you for a comparison.

I was going to replace the 6x9s in my car with the ones from my old car, but when I went to change them over they didn't fit for that very reason. Then I found out that the ones that came with my car were better anyway...

Good point.
Well if you have a jvc head unit go for jvc speakers..
i got the CS-V6932 and they were a straight fit in the rear slots.
regarding the specs of the stock speakers, i don't think you should worry about that. Instead check the specs of your head unit and see what kind of speakers you can run off it. [/quote]

You have to take your back seat out.

There are two plastic catches in the rear footwells holding the squab cushion in - pull these and the cushion should come up and out. Then there are two large bolts holding the backrest in, you need to unbolt them and lift the backrest up and out.

Then IIRC you need to get in the boot and push upwards on the little tabs that are holding the parcel tray in, and it should lift up. If you have a rear window wiper it may require some 'massaging' to get it out. Then the rear speakers will be exposed. You will need a short phillips head screwdriver to unscrew them.

There's a few more in-depth guides on the net somewhere, there might be one on www.ftooc.org - I can't remember...

EDIT - the one on FTOOC says you need to unbolt the rear wiper - you don't actually need to do this ... well at least I didn't.
