Idling at 4,000rpm

My car started to idle at 2,500rpm the other night and this moring it started to idle at 4,000rpm.ididn't drive it to work. Does anyone know what is going on. My machanice told me at my last service that it was "hunting for idle". Need some helpand some advice??? :(

Could be that the stepper motor is slowly failing, might need replacement or a good clean. Also another thing i would try is an ECU reset, disconnect the battery for like 30 mins, and connect again, let it idle for 10 mins.

Those are my ideas, anyway, let me know if i'm wrong

Thank for the advice Boris i will try the battery first and i will let you how it goes. If it dosen't work i will get my machanic to look at the stepper motor.
