tyres

Post by elmo »

the only thing hard tyres are good for is burnouts. They reduce your traction.
Hey Madfto you said you try not go above 40??? what is the max stamped on the tyre? Cause 40 sounds like heaps for a passenger car tyre. I think the max on most of em is 36ish

im running on 235/40 17" all round, with pressure of 29 at the moment..
the ride anything above that is unbearable....
i checked my tyres on the weekend and there seems to be a significant difference (on all 4) between the wear in the middle than the edges... the middle being more worn—which suggests over inflation?? so im almost keen on reducing the pressure... but is there a 'minimum' pressure we should run on? my tyres at the moment doesnt look flat...

You're right. An over inflation is usually indicated by wear in the middles of the tyres, more than the edges. But on 29psi? I would recommend checking your wheel alignment as well.

Also, you should check your tyre pressure when your tyres are cold, and not after a trip for example to get the most accurate reading.

On another forum (non-FTO), a guy with 235/40/17 had 36psi at the front and 44 on the rear.

Another point is underinflation is actually more dangerous than overinflation.
From FTO to EVO......

Personally I wouldn't be going under 30psi but that's just me =)

I'm running semi-comp tyres, so 40's pretty safe for me.

Mind you I only goto 40 on Z or H rated tyres.

Anything else I go around the 36 mark.

Maybe that's just stupid but eh, I don't know why I do it =)

yah, i thought there could be someting wrong with my tyres...
with regards to wheel alignment, i check the wear on my tyres every week, and it is pretty even on both sides...
its just the middle and the edges that arent even.... thats for all 4...
hmmm, maybe its just the brand of tyres ive got on.. i dunno...
ill try and deflate it and run on 27...

the inside edge wears due to your driving style, if that is the one that is worn??
