Is it possible to use this with the 6A12?

What are the gear ratio's like compared to the original gearbox?

What about strength?

I dont think so, isnt it on the oppisite side and spins the other direction. Even if this wasnt true you would need a million custom parts to make it fit to the point that not much of your original gearbox would be left

I meant the CE 4G92 gearbox

If not actually bolting that to the engine, what about it's internals?

Or simpler yet, how can I play with gear ratio's on the car?
1st to 2nd is way too big of jump

You can get custom ratio gears made up for your car, however its expensive and requires a lot of r n d
Dont you have a 6a13 in your car, you would be better tunning the boost and engine instead

Spetz has a 6A12 in a Lancer.

Well, it's not really 'in' the Lancer at the moment.

Actually Mr Bucket it is.
And, my car has been registered again for nearly a week!

The new engine going in is a completely different 6A12 to minimise downtime of my car (I am expecting a smart ass comment to this)

I was able to fit a F5M41 gearbox (1996 mitsu colt) to my engine (6A11, 1996 v6 lancer). The bellhousings of the 6A1* and 4G** series engines are basically the same from 1996 onward.
The mivec lancer (1996+) carries the same F5M42 gearbox (same bellhousing as F5M41) as the FTO. The difference is the gear ratios.
Correct me if I am wrong.

That's quite helpfull

Are the gear ratios on the 1.6 MIVEC considerably shorter?

What clutch is used?

yeah good question????!!!!! so you can bolt up a ce 4g92 mivec gearbox to a fto 6a12???????????????? I'm guessing the ratios are better- there was a ce lancer some where with a internally worked single cam 4g93 and this gearbox and it ran 14 something???????????????????

Yeah I think that lancer is now doing 13s
It's number plates were 2FST2C or something like that

But the 4G92 MIVEC gearbox is so hard to find :(
And even harder with LSD

Maybe you can play around with the diffs/final drive ratio?

because I drive VTEC YO!!!!! honda's quite often I swear the only reason they are as quick as they are is ultra short ratio's and light weight!

i've seen a drag race on a jap motoring show between a fto type r and a integra type r dc2 and the fto is in the lead for the first half of the 1/4 mile (because imo of the longer gear ratios and torque) but then the integra passed by and won by around .1 of a sec (~15.2)

theres other factors but they both had full grip when they left the line, and with the foot planted down on both, the fto was in the lead for 1st/2nd gear, then the integra passed by to win :(

it takes ages to change gears in a drag race, .2 of a sec or something

I still think with shorter ratios the car will always be quicker

And I think the only reason the FTO was leading for a while (I have that video too) is because of it's extra torque compared to just peak power the DC2R has
Given a rolling start the FTO would get whooped pretty bad I think

which gear box fits perfectly with this engine and where can i source a conversion kit??

Depends on your model Galant. Most Mitsi's pre 95 had the box on the drivers side. Post 95 cars have the box on the passenger side & as such each type of box is different (spins the opposite way.)

If its a post 95 style (box on passenger side of the car) then either the FTO box (F5M42) wil fit, or the original box that came with the post 95 6A11's was the F5M41 box. Major differrence between the boxes is the final drive ratio, M42 is 4.3:1, M41 is 4.05:1

If its the pre 95 style, you could try the F5M31 7bolt tranny, or the F5M22.

Pretty sure none of them require any conversion kits as such.

Hope that helps.

i was also told the problem lies with the starter y any gearbox is not compatible with it, i assume that wont b an issue with the boxes your recommending!

Bump from the dead, also the 4G93 gearbox as I may have my hands on one of these for free.
