Clutch replacement

I'm curious to know what sort of clutch some of you guys are running on your car atm...

I'm driving mine on borrowed time at the moment so I need a clutch replacement REAL SOON.

Any recommendations as to what brand to go for / how much to pay / where to get it done in Melbourne??

RPW sells a lot of the Semi Ceramic paddle clutch disc packages which are great.

Retains all the driveability of standard but 50% stronger and will take a beating without failure.

They are valued at $450.00 on average and last just as long as an origonal under normal driving but take more of a beating. They are not heavier on the pedal so no extra effort involved.

hey Mitsiman,

how much labour (hours) would be involved in changing a FTO clutch? Have u done this before in a FTO? I presume the gearbox has to be totally removed to do this.

WE certainly have along with some brakes, tensioners, heater hoses amongst other things.

But to do a clutch yes you need to remove the gearbox . Normally takes around 3 hours to replace plus the gearbox oil and teh clutch. Average price including clutch etc is around $650 - $700.00 with our Semi ceramic paddle clutch disc

thanks mitsiman,

my man gearbox rattles under acceleration (up to 1800rpm), sounds like input shaft rattling. So i thought fixing that and doing clutch at the same time might be a good idea.

Ever heard of this before?

yeah where did u get the clutch from? Part number would be great, was it just the plate, or did it include other bits.

How does it go? Feel any different to standard?

the semi ceramic clutch is a little bit harder on the pedal but it is definately grippier (is that a word??) It takes a couple of days to get used to but would definately be worth it if you drive hard, and pop the clutch a fair bit ...

i've got a set of Exedy heavy duty metal clutch kit on order waiting for installation later this week ($900 fitted).

apparently they have a 35% greater clamping force than the Ralliart upgrade (although i never heard of a Ralliart clutch upgrade for the FTO) but it still retains the std driveability and feel.

Will let y'all know how it goes when it's done.

who is doing the job GPXXX ?
let me know what u think of them and the new clutch, i might have to do the same.
how much is parts and how much is labour of the $900 approx.
