FTO age question

Post by nofearzz »

When did the FTO start to come out come out with ABS and airbags (duel or single) and traction control??

I'm guessing around 97 or 98. And from which year does it get more exensive to compliance the FTO? - (extra because of the airbags.. if at all)

Thanks for any help

96+ FTOs are more expensive to comply, because their seatbelts must be replaced with Oz-spec OEM items... Expect $460+ for the seatbelts alone - on top of the compliance fee... There may be other thing which i could have missed out, but if your car has any mods, you must replace these with factory items during the compliance process (and spend extra to fit them back in)

airbags are optional on all FTOs up to 96 i think... '96 FTOs come with optional Momo or factory airbag wheel if i'm not mistaken...

mine is a 96 with Momo airbag wheel, but i dunno if it has ABS but certainly no traction control. ...dunno if that's a good thing or bad thing, really...

I think SRS/ABS/TCL were there as options right from the beginning.

from 96+ models drivers MOMO wheel with SRS became standard
ABS/TCL still a factory option

97+ models came with passenger airbag standard and probably ABS standard.

correct me if i am wrong

Our 95 GPX came with an an airbag, which is annoying as it is a BIG Steering Wheel.

Going to rip it out and put in a momo one when $ allows.

Got Traction control in my 95 gpx.
Dunno about airbag, got small momo wheel so may have been taken out or not there to begin with. Like everyone reckons, they were probably just options at that stage.
Hey Silent Bob, you reckon it corners better with TCL off?
Tried it a bit but end up sliding around in round abouts etc cause goin too fast. Might be more fun but I reckon it's quicker with it on.
Definately quicker of the mark with it off and lettin the wheels spin a bit, but thats straight line so different to corners.
