Substance coming out of aircon

Post by topao »

OKay i currently have this smoke like substance coming from the aircon whenever i drive the car, It has a really bad smell to it (to me it reminds me of the smell of fish oil), actually smells like the radiator fluid thats currently sitting in the car, upon inspection of the radiator fluid it had somehow gone from red to mirky brown. However the FTO hasn't seem to have used any of the fluid in the last 4 months and considering ive done just over 10,000kms in that time its very unusal.
Upon inspection under the bonnet i also found that my fans where really working Hard, I've never actually noticed them being on before.

Any guesses as to whats wrong?

Sounds like something in your cooling system is about to go bang...

Get down to your local mechanic and get a the cooling system (radiator) pressure tested. Mirky brown water is bad.... perhaps it just needs flushing, but it could be much more.

You have a stuffed Heater Core.

I suggest getting it fixed sooner rather than later.........

You may also notice a lot of liquid in the passenger side footwell.

Cheers

im from the UK, so i couldnt tell u the price, its £130 over here. But u will need a new one, they cant be repaired. Its just a radiator really. U can fit it yourself but its not a fun job

here if u feel up to it

If u want the car to stay on the road for a while u need to bypass the matrix. If you look in your engine bay just to the left of the battery, u will see 2 pipe. the same size. with clips round themcoming out of the bulkhead. Just connect them together. U wont have any heating. but u wont loose any coolant

Got mine done at Rik and Joe's when I was living in QLD.

Cost around $500 to replace including a second hand heater matrix.

There are some DIY's on how to fix it yourself but it is not a fun job.

Cheers
