Ok, did a quick search about this topic, didn't see it so decided to post it here.
I have an hks pod filter, it's getting dirty, do i clean the green cotton foam, or where can i buy a replacement for it? Cheers.

Replace it. The foam will degrade over time, better off getting a new one. Any of the Aust HKS distributors can get them for you:

I'm sure many of you have seen this test but if you havn't, worth a read. It's about induction kits/filters for the fto.

I'm using the hks atm as well, heck...it came with the car lol. Just cleaned it recently. According to that test, it gives one of the best power gains but i've also seen somewhere that it doesn't filter quite well...but if it's in the engine bay...shouldn't be too dirty in the first place right ?!

its true mate. The relationship between flow and filtration is inversly proportonal.Bennoz wrote:Yeah I keep getting told there aint a pod filter in the market that offers as a good a filtration service as the factory ones do... price you pay for hp!
Pod mesh/gauze types nearly always flow better but filter less. The idea of a filter is to filter, funny that. There is talk about deisgns etc...but the fact remians it lets bigger particles though which then equals engine wear - in theory.
However I have seen numerous oil analsysis tests with K&N and there is not enough evidence to show K&N is really causing any issues based on Used Oil Analysis. However ppl who do this have agreed paper is both cheaper and filters better so draw your own conclusion.
I now run a stock pannel filter with the stock box and UAS intake pipe. Basically I cant tell the difference apart from the noise. UAS sell the Unifilter which based on their testing filters better than K&N. I have one for sale if you one one they filter better but have a larger surface area to allow for better flow. They are an oiled type.
IMO - What u gain from using the Pod u loose x2 from it not being sealed properly and having a good shield. In an NA car, intake temp is probably the most imporant and thats why the stock box is great.
For a normal FTO I suggest
New Intake - UAS is good
K&N pannel filter for stock box
Re-route the intake from the stock box to be more direct
There are a few guides on this in this forum.
