Price on New Motor???

Post by Daza »

Hi guys, just wanted to know if anyone can give me a price on a new motor for my 1995 GS.(214000klms)
Cant get rid of the tappet noise and it aint gettin any quieter.Found out tappets aren't self adjustable.Thought it may be cheaper to just pull whole motor out and replace it.(depending on cost)Bit of a downer considering only owned it for a few weeks.Cant find a decent machanic on the central coast that knows enough about them. They all want to "give it a go"with the tappets.NOT!!!If there is anyone on the Central Coast(or reasonably close) with the knowledge please feel free to contact me and call in and give me some well needed advise.

How loud is it ????

from what I have seen/heard, this is a comon problem for FTO's ... You can usually get some good prices on a half cut from Just Jap (www.justjap.com), but yeah, I don't think that it would be a cheaper option...

We have a lot of members spread out, so someone may know a good mechanic for you up there... Where abouts on the coast are ya ???

What kinda engine you putting in there first? Do you have the 4G series engine being a GS?

Have no idea how much the GS engines are but I think market value for 6A12 non-mivec varies between $600~$800 and the MIVEC version roughly $1000~$1500.

Anyone else got any rough estimates?

I sold both of the ones I had for around the $550 mark. But if you are going to a wrecker, dont expect to get it for less than $1300.

That's cool dude. The GS model was a 4 cylinder model of the FTO which is why I was thinking why the hell wouldn't you just buy a 6 series engine.

Anyway the 4 series engines are 4 cylinders and we have the 6 series engines which are 6 cylinders. Pretty simple really.

You have to replace the tappets! Whole units.... you can get them from kempys www.kempys.co.nz for around the $400 mark for a full set.

    Here's the 'how-to':

You may be able to source a GR motor cheaper, but you never know what might be wrong or about to go wrong with a second hand engine... its the risk you take.
