The gearbox has to come out, its reco'ed (which in most cases is simply a change of fluid) the new converter is put in, box goes back in.

2k tops.

If you try & sell it now to an unsuspecting buyer, i'll stab you in the eye with a pair of tongs. Its un-Australian.... the kind of thing a lebo would do in Lakemba.

but by the sounds of the condition of your box, metal particles are in your valve body, in the clutch plates the works!

That would mean full rebuild.

I doubt anyone will buy the vehicle.

Trust me, take it to a specialist soon. Give it a few more clicks and you'll have no drive at all.

Bonnoz and myself can relate.

No-one over here has had any problems after just replacing their TC. To get it out you need to drain the box anyway and any small particles are caught in the filter so it should be okay. Theres a write up on FTOOC UK on how to remove the gearbox so you can take a print off from there to a garage and let them know what is involved so they can give you an accurate quote.

Obviously there would not be a problem just changing your torque convertor, as thats the main cause at the moment. But there will be damage to your torque convertor, metal everywhere in your valve body.

Mate, your filter would do stuff all when your torque converter bascially explodes. You dont undertstand how much damage metal particles do to your box. Why do auto specialist never use your original cooler pipes etc when they rebuild your box?

Bascially just changing your TC would mean a half arsed job. Ask any auto specialist metal particles are bad for your engine. Any professional would bypass your original oil coolers just in case there is metal fragments. If your going to spend 70% of costs changing your TC, replace the rest!

Mate even if your transmission was totally screwed you could have you engine run all day. They are not connected in any way.

Your oil in your tranny would barely heat up if you did not drive your car.

The way I see it is, everytime you leave your car, metal particles are resting inside your auto. Drive for a bit box heats up, metal particles start flowing through the oil pump, filter, bascially blocking everything up causing your box to overheat.

Your box is screwed.
